What size pointers/half moons for rebuild?

Hi All! :wavey:
Need some help with my rebuild. I've searched these forums, and not pulling up much. I'm revamping my 1.8ct RB plain shank solitaire (size 5), and am now ready to move forward with the rebuild!
____
I'm keeping 3/4 of the original ring shank, they're basically lobbing off the top of the ring and rebuilding with a custom platinum head. I'll post pics of what I'm going for, but want to make sure I'm right on the size diamonds.
I was thinking 2 pointers for the halo surround, but now thinking 1.5 pointers would be better. They brought in two half moons, .285ct each...these were too big for my liking, I don't want a three-stone. They were gorgeous, and brilliant, just too big. They are bringing in .20-.24ct halfmoons next week.

This picture, I believe, is a 3ct diamond. I'm going for the same ratio...am I on the right track?? Again, it'll just be the head on a plain shank (not the sadered diamond bands). Also want double claw prongs. TIA!!

A good ringmaker should be able to look at that picture and figure out the proportions and make you a drawing or CAD with your size center stone. I would not consider it if they aren't going to provide you with something visual to approve or else call in side stones and show you next to your diamond.

Yes, they are, will be providing CAD and wax. After reading somewhere on these forums that a lot of jewelers go with 1.5 pointers for halos (my jeweler mentioned the 2 pointers after looking at the pics), I wanted to gather some opinions.

I think with your center stone around 1.8 c, I'd stick with 1/2 to 3/4 pointers (assuming the bench can properly set that size). Have a look laurenk's pear halo (2.01c, 1/2 pointers in the halo, if I recall, correct me laurenk if I'm wrong). This setting by VC really shows how a lovely halo adds a nice nice balance. I think larger will make the halo look more floral.

Most PSers want delicate halos...the two images you posted look more on the delicate side then on the larger side to me. I
think 2 pointers will be too big especially with the added moons. 1.5 would be better but some go with even smaller.

This thread has a couple of pictures of halos with 2 pointers...

Thank you, all! I'm meeting with the jeweler on Thursday to look at the half-moons, and decide what size halo diamonds to use. I expressed my worries about the ring being too big with the 2 pointers, and the half moons. I want nice finger coverage, but not with a three-stone. We shall see!

Thought I would post my CADs and wax pics here :appl: Should be ready end of this week!

The CADs, which I wasn't too crazy about, but thought I give it a go since I know they can be way different. So happy I did!

SO excited to see the final result! I love the look!!

Can you show us a "before" photo of your solitaire?

Thank you! I'm excited too!
It's a Mark Morrell :) The solid center is my original band which I'm ecstatic we were able to keep intact, for the most part, same diamond too. The second set of pics were taken at the jewelers. I've actually never had the prongs tightened or adjusted in the 11 years of its existence so they look a little beat up.
