What size centre for 7mm sides?

I have a pair of 7mm red oec spinel earrings that I'm thinking about using as side stones in a 3 stone ring. I intent purchasing a lab diamond and having a setting made. My question is, what size centre should I buy? Are 7mm stones too big to use as sides? I'm open to using a round, cushion or oval as the centre stone. My setting will be yellow gold and I plan on buying a lower coloured stone, I actually prefer a tint rather than super white. TIA

I think it depends on what your finger size is :D I am close to an 8 and would happily rock something that is 7mm, 9-10mm, 7mm :D

I'm a 5.75.

Do you think then I'd need to opt for a 7mm centre?

That would be 21mm across not including the setting. I think that could work if you make it swoopy under the centre stone. It just might be uncomfortable between the fingers if it is too wide.

It’ll also depend on what you like as a “look” - I personally like it when the top of the ring threatens to “spill over” onto neighbouring fingers, I think it looks really substantial. Plus, the way you angle the stones will help with how it looks on the hand. I think an oval or an elongated stone would probably look better than a round or square. Something like an oval which is ~10.5-11mm on the long end and 6.75-7.25mm on the short end. That works out to ~1.5 ratio which is something I actually like (elongated oval) but is not usually recommended in the interests of full disclosure. Or perhaps an EC? I think the mixed “flavours” of cut could be interesting as well!

Would it have to be your ring finger? Middle finger might be able to carry that load a little better.

I was hoping to wear it on my ring finger. If I went with a centre in the 7mm+ width range do you think that the centre would need to sit higher than the sides?

Editing as someone else read my mind! :)
Perhaps you could make a middle finger ring then? The stones would fit well across around a 7.5 - 8.5 size. The overall look will be quite chunky though.

Yes. It will look pretty chunky on the same level but overall chunky anyway if made to sit higher. We're talking about some sizeable stones. Any chance you would just use one spinel to make a toi et moi style ring?

Go N/S instead of E/W?

@Wyntery Thought this picture might be helpful to you. I have a three stone sapphire ring with a 7mm round center and side pears measuring 7mm in length. The stones are all set kind of high (the center sapphire is 9-10mm above my finger) and the pears are tucked in at quite an angle. The ring is a size 7.5 and the stones span 20mm across my finger. I guess I'm a little too ambitious to use them as sides then! I don't mind a blingy look, but I still want it to be comfortable.

Maybe a bypass Moi et Toi style?

I have a moissanite OEC toi et moi now with 8mm stones. I love it. Smaller stones would feel like a downgrade :)

Actually, how about three in a row on a diagonal?
