What should I do?

First, I am a long time lurker who decided to come out of hiding. I have enjoyed all of the information PS has to offer. You all give such great advice, hence my decision to post. Please bear with me as I'm new at this and honestly a bit nervous (since you guys are all so awesome).

My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary last year. He agreed to let me get a new ring. I went to a B&M store here with my husband with what type of ring I thought I wanted already in mind. We looked at only those type settings and purchased a ring. Four months later, I decided that it wasn't really what I wanted after all. So, I returned to the store, and though it was well after their 30 day return policy, they allowed me to trade it in on another setting (at a slightly higher cost since it was now pave and an e-ring and band vs. just e-ring). Well, here we are only 4 days later, and I'm not convinced this is the ring either.

So, here are my questions: Would I be pressing my luck to take it back and ask to try another completely different setting? Am I totally nuts to be this undecided? Would other trade persons be completely irritated by a customer like myself?

I think part of the problem is that my finger does not fit the sample size, and so I don't get to really see the finished product until it is set, sized, and on my hand. Is that a fair reason to change? Please help me! I think my husband is ready to kill me, and that's pretty bad since he is such a patient person.

Since you're not happy with the ring, I would at least *try* to see if you can exchange it. There's no harm in asking. Yes, they'll probably be irritated with you, but I would try and focus on YOUR goal - and that is to have a ring that you are happy with for the next 5, 10, or 20 years. I would be as polite and as humble as possible, obviously it wouldn't help if you acted as if you were entitled to exchange/return the ring, but that doesn't sound like you from your post :) If you are willing to spend even more money on the next trade, that will probably help as well. If they just don't have what you want, you can try to sell the ring and start over, but of course you'll probably lose money that way.

Good luck! Oh, and if you post in Rocky Talky instead of SMTB you might get more replies.

Thanks so much for the advice on both the ring and where to post. I'll give both a try!

You are welcome, I hope things go smoothly for you in the exchange and hope you are able to find what you are looking for. Sometimes it's hard to focus in on what you really want after Pricescope because there are SO many different, lovely rings here.

If you are no happy with it now, you may regret it later for not least try to see if you can try a different set.

agreed. I would give a return a shot if you are really not happy.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. It's nice to be hearing from some of the "experts" and not just sounding off to my already spent husband.

Yes, PS makes the decision very hard with all of the lovelies here. I need to stop thinking about how things look on everyone else or in the pictures and focus on what really looks good on me and what look I am really going for.

BTW, I did move this question over to Rocky Talk as previously advised.

Definitely don't settle if it's not what you want.

No harm in trying to change it again. But don't expect the store to let you do it for free! Try different settings and get it in your size, save up if you need to.

And don't talk about it with your husband anymore ;)) Keep it to yourself anf vent here. Men don't care and if they listen to too much whining and agony they get annoyed!

Again, thanks to all for the help. Your thoughts really do matter as I know you guys are all jewelry lovers like me and have dealt with some of the same issues.

I don't think my DH will let me spend anymore money as this second purchase was already about $1,500 more than what he agreed to initially. He is very kind, but we have already spent slightly north of $10k and don't have unlimited resources. (If only!)

My only hope is that I'm bringing it in much sooner this time than last, and this would fall in the 30 day return period for this set. The saleslady was quite patient with me and reassured me multiple times as I was looking this second time that I am not the worst she's seen in terms of indecisiveness. So, I'm hoping that will carry over and she will realize that I'm just one of those people who will need to try multiple things before I'll find "the one".

I agree with the others...if you aren't happy with it now, when it's still in the new phase,
You will definitely not be happy with it after that wears off. Why just settle, get what you
really want!

I so agree. I would hate it immensely if I had to spend my Satuday with my husband at a car parts store or something while he deliberated about which brand parts he needed to repair his car!

I'd honestly return this ring and just ask for a credit for now. I think you need to really look at rings on here and then go back and try on everything that remotely interests you to really be more sure of what you want. Don't buy again until you LOVE something!

Thanks again for everyone's advice. You gave me the courage to at least try, and I took the set back today. While they are charging me a fee for labor (for setting the stone and sizing), they are taking the set back with credit given. I'll have some time away from everything to think about what I really want. Your advice worked! I was really nervous about it, but you all were right as usual. I hope to be able to show you the final choice soon (but not too soon =) ).

Good for you! Hoping you find the perfect rings for you!

definitely look around the forum- check out the Show Me the Bling forum and save pics of what you like and shop around other stores trying things on before you go back and use your store credit.
