Captain Owen Honors is the Captain of the US aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise.
In 2006 and 2007 he used Navy equipment to make videos to show the Enterprise's crew of thousands of men and women - apparently for morale boosting.

A newspaper has published the videos and I expect Capt. Honors will lose his very high profile job of commanding one of America's 11 aircraft carriers.

Here's a link about it, and it includes the offensive videos.
The first one is 12 minutes.
Watch it if you dare.

Well that was 12 minutes of my life that I will never get back. What a stupid way to ruin a career.

I'm sorry but I only made to the point where they thought the "f" word was funny. Are they 14? I don't have an opinion because I'm not willing to watch the whole thing.

I don't know what his punishment should be, but definitely showed a lack of character to me. That is not the kind of
leadership I think is needed on a huge battleship. I don't know if his crew respects him, but it seems he lost a lot of respect
and maybe his reputation with that bit of film.

Forced to retire, that will be the most likely outcome

Dishonorable discharge + stripped of his pension would be my choice. But we all know that ain't gonna happen.

Is the video safe to open at work?

Without seeing it, I don't have an opinion one way or the other for his specific case.
I do think that if he broke regulations, he should face the consequences -- up to and including dishonerable discharge (and criminal charges if appropriate).

I wouldn't open it at work, just to be on the safe side. The hand gestures and profane language was blurred and bleeped out but it's still an offensive video.

What a disgrace this guy is.

Thanks for the warning.

I have great respect for the men & women who serve in our military. They really are special people. I HATE to hear about stuff like this happening -- the handful of offensive people are very often the ones who get noticed and it gives the whole military a bad reputation.

There were some people here locally accused of some pretty outrageous behavior (actually criminal!) so I've heard too much about how the "military is bad" and how anyone in the military is "uneducated and irresponsible" and a lot worse.

I wish guys like this would think about what message they're sending out!

I don't need to watch the videos. Because they matter not at all to you or me. Your life isn't less pleasant now that you know about his brand of humor.

I'm positive, over the course of military history in the U.S., that there have been many more offensive things said and done by officers and non-coms alike.

As someone who lives close to the military, I'll let you in on a little secret: THE MILITARY CAN BE CRUDE.

But as long as those folks are defending me and my country, I think I'll shut up and leave them alone.

Now, go ahead and attack me for not being self-righteously livid about this.

I suppose it's impossible for any of us who've never been in the position of facing active duty can understand what it feels like- and I also share the admiration for these men and women.
I'm also grateful for what they do....
Having said that, the video was very disappointing.

When you accept certain positions/ranks/jobs/titles whatever, you are often expected to act a certain way, both on and off the job. If you don't like it, don't take the job.

I'd say he should have to leave, not sure if a dishonorable discharge would be a little harsh, but there are other men and women who would be honored and proud to have his job.
