What shape setting would this blue spinel fit into?

Oooo, purty!

I think it would go nicely in a prong setting, I'm guessing it would probably fit in a setting made for a round, but I'm not an experienced jeweler.

6 x 6 mm square cushion will do. I wouldn''t sweat it over the sides as they aren''t very pointy.

The sides aren''t really in any more danger than with any other stone. This stone really does need to have prongs which capture or enclose the corners to keep the stone from twisting. This means double prongs, modified chevron or bezel setting will work best. If you try to use a typical single prong on each corner and anything bends enough to allow the stone to twist, the prongs will let the stone go and it''ll disappear. Double prongs are the easiest, modified chevron would have a wider angle than on a square stone and need to be custom, as would a bezel for this shape. Very pretty color !

Definitely a cushion cut setting. I've got a similar shape set into an LOGR Legacyesque setting. It might be an idea to go for a halo so the sides are protected. Very pretty gem.

Thanks so much dear friends-of-great-knowledge !

I was wondering who was going to pick that one up. It was pretty enough to make an e-ring out of! Congrats!

The edges of the cushion are more rounded, so you would need a LOGR legacy (if that''s what you''re interested in) that''s smaller than the measurement of the stone. The one that Glitterata just bought will fit in a 7x7mm LOGR legacy. I think her stone is 7.8mm, but don''t quote me on that.

I did the same thing and went down in size.

Legacy would be great. What size would you suggest for it - 6.47x 6.41x 4.18mm? A 6x6?

Thanks again, very, very much.

Aww, thanks GemGirl.

At the most, a 6 x 6, yes.
