Hi I am very very newbie to diamond and ring knowledge and I guess most guys do. My friend refered me to a broker and he helped me find a stone with the following details -
GIA cert
Shape: Round Brilliant
Weight: .73 carat
Meas: 5.72 – 5.75 X 3.58
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Total Dep 62.40
Tab% 58.00
Girdle Med
Faceted
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Sym: Very Good
Fluor: None

My girlfriend told me she wants a Eng .ring and its setting look like this from Tiffany - http://www.tiffany.com/shopping/item.aspx?cntry1=1&CategoryID=0&c_id=WEB1&c_it=67M2, of coz, it''ll be the diamond in the middle but still with 8 marquise cut diamonds on the side and smaller in size.

Okay, my questions are
1. is the above diamond good? I think it worth $3xxx something, right?
2. if I can afford US$5000 to $6XXX for my Eng ring (exactly the look my gf wants it), how much I shall spend on the marquise cut diamonds on the sides? shall I get a platinum or white gold?
3. instead of having broker to do it for me all, my friend told me that I can take the diamond somewhere else and ask them to make the Eng ring..with other marquise diamond and setting. Which way is better and/or cheaper - having broker to do it all or go somewhere else?
4. based on the info above, how much inches is the diamond on 2-D? I saw picture of it..but can''t imgaine the size, is it a descent size for an eng. ring?..(I am nervous my gf will say it''s not big enough :P)

Many thanks..

My bad that I didn''t do enough home work...now I think I may want to bigger diamond like .9 carat. But my broker told me he already got this stone for me...can I ask him to get a another bigger? I am not familiar with buying diamond from a broker. Also, originally, i plan to have my broker to find the settings and everything for me too.

Any advice and appropriate steps I shall do next?

Thanks,
Vincent

btw, what kind of "cut'' is my stone be? premium? signature?...

Well, unless you already paid for the stone or signed some kind of contract, you are under no obligation to buy it.

What did you end up doing?

The cut quality of a stone is determined by more than the information you provided, so we can''t say what kind of cut it has. The table and depth are like knowing somebody''s height and weight. If either is unusually high or low, then you know the stone will stink. But if they are in the middle range, then it could mean anything . . . just like a person of average height and weight could be very fit or sort of dumpy.

Anyway, the good news is that the numbers are pretty normal, although both are on the higher end. We need the crown and pavilion angles to determine the rest.
