I have a Q for you ladies, especially those who have had a graduating 5-stone ring made. How do you work out the proportions?

I have a 0.90ct loose diamond which I've been trying to sell on consignment unsuccesfully. I'm planning to take it back and put into a 5-stone ring with a pair of 0.60ct each (1.20ctw approx) stones (currently in a pair of earrings which I seldom wear). I need to purchase another two smaller stones to put into the graduating 5-stone ring, but am unsure which size to get.

So, what size for the new stones? Would 0.44ct each (diameter of approx 4.90mm) be ok? FYI, the 0.90ct stone is approx 6.10-6.17mm. The 0.60ct stones are abt 5.4mm each.

Look more at the dimensions than the carat size. Maybe someone can draw up an example if there isn't already one on PS.

Thank you, swingirl. So, would this configuration be ok? 4.90mm-5.40 - 6.10 - 5.40 - 4.90?

Phoenix is always up to something..

IMO,a 1mm graduating size would look very nice,so in your case the center stone is 6.10mm ,then (2) 5.10mm, then (2) 4.10mm stones.

i was trying to do that with this 3 stone drop pendant, but at the time BGD didn't have a G/H SI1 6.3mm stone available so the middle stone and the bottom ended up looking too close in size. the top stone is 1mm smaller than the middle stone, but the middle stone is only .60mm smaller than the bottom stone. it ended up at 4.3mm,5.3mm.5.9mm.

I think you should look in the .3 ct range.

you also want to make sure it will fit on your rather slim fingers!

What can I say? I *lurve* bling! :twirl: Seriously though, I already have three existing stones, two of which are from my mom/ wedding present from DH (he bought them from her to give to me) and I've not been able to wear them (they're in hoop earrings at the moment and for some reason the earrings really hurt my ears - both when I wear them but particularly when I take them on and off). I'd LOVE to be able to wear them on a daily basis, for sentimental reasons. So I can't buy another two 5.10mm stones.

Your (yr mistress' ?:naughty: ) pendant looks very nice. I can't see the issue you mentioned. They look pretty graduating to me.

Thank you. May I ask why you say this? Wouldn't that be a bit too small?

Yes, you do have a good point. I think I will always have this issue (having stones hanging slightly off the edges of my finger) but I think I may be able to live with it :naughty: :)) provided the proportions are right.
