What periodicals do you like to read?

NYT & TIME

The use of the word "periodicals" made me laugh!
I read:
-People
-Bon Appetite (gift)
-Betty Crocker monthly
-Popular Science
-Shape
-Marie Claire
...and my favorite...Playboy. its actually really interesting! My husband has been a subscriber for years. I enjoy the articles!

I don''t subscribe to anything right now but I used to get Entertainment Weekly and Time. I''ve thought about subscribing to Time again and either EW or People but I haven''t wanted to spend the $. Sometimes I''ll pick up a copy at the grocery store. I occasionally flip through Rachel Ray''s magazine or home/organizational magazines. I don''t typically like fashion magazines.

Oh, HH, I used to love reading Publishers weekly when I worked at HMCo in Boston. It was passed around throughout our department. I always looked forward to seeing it on my desk, waiting for me.

Within the last 10 years since I''ve changed fields I''ve gotten into educational journals so I''ve subscribed to The Reading Teacher and Reading Research Quarterly. They''re a bit dry (esp. RRQ), so I only read them occasionally now.

The Economist

The Atlantic.

Elle Decor, Traditional Homes, Veranda, Better Homes and Gardens, Metropolitan Home , NY Trends

still upset my Domino ( which went out of business, a loss of epic proportions) subscription got replaced with generic design mags- so not me

Metropolitan Home was my favorite magazine but it stopped production in 2009

It weird, they give no notice, but they send alternative mags- no notice that something is canceled- i had this happen with domino, now, metropolitan homes, suddenly i am receiving mags I never subscripted for showing up, not my taste or anything I would have asked for... well, they sent Veranda, which is good--- maybe that's the replace for metropolitan homes... but for political stuff I go straight to the internet, magazine subscriptions are very hard to handle, they get you caught, give your information out to others, and get trapped in a cycle of billing... I prefer the internet except for decor and garden magazines which are heavy with pictures I love for reference.

Country Living

The Whole Dog Journal

Reading Research Quarterly (IRA)

Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy (IRA)

College English (NCTE)

In the recent past I''ve subscribed to:

Vogue

W

Newsweek

The New Yorker

Hmmm, there were others but I can''t even remember them right now.

Haven -- I wonder if you''ve ever read any of my mom''s articles. She may have had articles in Research in the Teaching of English but I''m not sure. Phi Delta Kappan, yes. Connections of NSRF, yes. English Journal, yes. Not sure about RTE though.

Let''s see...

National Geographic (gift from my grandparents, have read this since I was little--always used to snag my parents issue when it arrived and devour it)
Everyday Food
Martha Stewart Living
Guideposts

I''ll pick up others from the library, such as Real Simple, Cooking Light, National Geographic Traveler, Glamour. And I always make it through 2 or 3 while getting my hair highlighted. [:)}

DH gets Money, Fortune, and Inc. (which originally showed up one day in my name, for no apparent reason. About that same time DH started getting Outside. Still have no idea why.)

I haven''t paid for a magazine subscription for at least the last 5 years. I get them all free and have given my local library a few of these free subscriptions as well. Some I get as a result of doing surveys others I just don''t know why I get them, I just get them (no, not a gift)

I''m really feeling like I need to jump on the magazine/periodical bandwagon here .. I was thinking of subscribing to a wine magazine the other day, does that count?

PS is full of smarties!

Unfortunately, most American magazines end up costing an arm and a leg to subscribe here in Canada. There are 30-40$ of shipping costs, so we don't subscribe to many. Most of ours are Canadian. Naming a few I can remember off the top of my head:

MacLeans (Canadian version of Time)
Time
Wired
Money Sense (Canadian version of The Economist)
Make
Popular Science

Yes, all geeky stuff. But I can't bring myself to spend on frivolous reading! I do buy 'Glamour' maybe 2-3x a year (when we travel). I get hand-me-downs of Bon Appetit every now and then.

The only one I subscribe to is The Economist.

Others are just sent to me, no idea why!

Parenting
Better Homes & Gardens
O
W Magazine

We don''t willingly subscribe to all of these, my mom is a sucker for kids selling things, so she buys me gift subscriptions. I mainly subscribe to the shelter magazines (aka design). I have to have House Beautiful and Traditional Home, they''re like required reading for me.

House Beautiful
Traditional Home
Veranda
Better Homes and Gardens
Southern Living (even though I live in New Jersey!)
Martha Stewart Living
GQ
Details
Fortune
Forbes
Money
Golf Digest (totally not mine)
Men''s Health
Bon Appetite
Ebony (Thanks mom, but I''m not a black woman. I do read it though.)

And I buy these at Barnes and Noble because they''re all Better Homes and Gardens Special interest publications:

Kitchen and Bath Ideas
Beautiful Homes
Renovation Style
Beautiful Kitchens
Remodel

I''m addicted to design magazines if you can''t tell.

I heard someone was trying to buy Southern Accents and revive it. I would totally flip out if that happened. I LOVED that magazine. I also miss Domino and Home.

We get:
Time
Newsweek
Wired
Scientific American
National Geographic
Discover
Entertainment Weekly
Car and Driver
The Royal Spaniels
Psychotherapy Networker
and my professional journals

I would recommend Wine Spectator. It''s fairly serious though - there are a lot of in depth articles about particular vineyards, vintages, serious collecting, etc. I''ll admit I skip some of the less fluffy articles. I love that you get access to their wine ratings online though.

Oh man, I loved Southern Accents so, so much!

As a transplanted New Yorker for 28 years I STLII have to read:
NY Daily News
NY Times
NY Post

the strange thing is I have no interest in the NJ newspapers.

I used to really enjoy my monthly edition of Vanity Fair, but lately not so much....I don''t know if I''ve changed or the editing has.

Since my husband is a hoarder I can''t keep any periodicals in the house or I would end of on an episode of the same name.
