Elmorton~ Congratulations!! I feel like I''m in a bit of a limbo right now, and I''ll probably feel that way until we officially close! Our closing date has been moved up to the 8th, so not long. I''m not concerned about buying now, just the risk of the fixed rate increasing (which apparently isn''t going to happen). We got a good deal on our house and we have to live somewhere, right?

Good Luck on your move! Remember, toilet paper under one arm and Chlorox wipes under the other!

SS, thanks! Congrats to you also! We actually already moved in (we had probably the weirdest home buying experience ever - the house was empty and the seller is our mortgage person and we had to be out of our rental by today, so since the seller knew everything was hunky-dory for closing, she let us in early) - but yes, lots of chlorox wipes were utilized in the process, haha :) I feel ya about the wait - I think I will feel a lot better when we actually close (should be Friday) - even though I know that this is a smart decision for us and everything is on course, the stuff on the news and hearing interviews of people who have been foreclosed upon makes the process seem unduly emotionally taxing. It''s really sad - we had to push it back because apparently several people who were our mortgage person''s contacts were laid off. This financial thing is certainly a mess, but at the same time, I''m really hoping that this will be a good investment in the long run - and I totally with you in that we figured that we need a place to live and our payment here is not too much more than what we paid in rent. Even if our house depreciated in value (which I hope beyond all hope that whomever is in the white house in January will be able to turn this mess around), we''d still lose less money reselling than the entire sum if we were renting for the next 5 years. Our house was built just a few years before the depression, so I keep on thinking that in the worse case scenario, if it make it through one, it can house us through another ;)
