What Music Do You Like?

I like a fairly eclectic range, mostly classic rock/big bands. Pink Floyd is my absolute favourite! I also love Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queen, INXS, Icehouse, and I grew up listening to America, Moody Blues and Fleetwood Mac with my parents, all of which I (and they!) still regularly listen to. I don't love country music (with a couple of exceptions here and there) but like most other genres.

All types, the whole gamut from the weird to the weirder and everything in between.

We're taking the kid to see Ghost this summer because I won't be able to take her to Daft Punk now. She was happy they apparently made the social media rounds recently. That should be a show.

@MissGotRocks there are a couple of gospel songs I enjoy. Two are by Helene Fischer who is a phenomenal German singer and quite easy on the eyes to boot. I understand (and respect) you aren’t religious @kenny but you may appreciate her voice.

My mom passed the morning after Christmas 2022 and when making funeral arrangements I had selected Amazing Grace by Helene until I found a text from her indicating song preference (my wife had reminded me of a weird message I got from her about 6-7 months earlier).

Anyhow, here are two by Helene you may also enjoy. And another hymnal by Johnny Cash. Very opposite end of the spectrum. I went to a Freewill Baptist Church and this song was frequently played but much faster and always on a piano so slightly different — but despite it falling outside my normal wheelhouse, I’ve always liked it.

Sledge, Helene’s voice is beautiful! Amazing Grace with bagpipes strikes at the chord of my Scotch-Irish heritage and just brings a tear. Hallelujah has been written with so many different lyrics but each is moving in its own way. It is a truly beautiful song.

Johnny Cash is indeed at an opposite spectrum but he performed with passion nonetheless! I am impressed that you could choose two samples for me that are so special to me and appreciate the intro to Helene. Your mother would have been so proud to have you put so much thought into the music for her service. A huge loss endured at Christmas must have been hard; staying focused on her wishes is admirable.

Thanks again for such thoughtful videos - I will be sure to circle back and listen again. I hope your wife’s health is continuing to improve too!

@jordyonbass this is one of their slower ones but it holds a special spot with me

@diamondringlover I’m not a huge country fan but do like some of the older stuff. Haha before Toby Keith became a hip country singer he really rocked a mullet type cut, lol. However I did like this song.

@Austina I love your list. Got most of them in my own playlists — plural because I have different ones for varying moods. ABBA stuck out to me. Not many people I know reference them by name while most know or have heard their hits.

@Demon there are so many great Beatles songs. I can’t choose just one. But the one on my brain lately has been Yellow Submarine because I’ve seen commercials using clips of the song.

@Piper70 have you saw this one? A tribute song but Prince really jams out on the guitar solo about half way through. One of my personal all time favorites.

@Dandi anytime I think of Red Hot Chili Peppers their song Give It Away gets stuck in my head. Thanks and arghhhhh all at the same time, lol.

I like all types of music, except country. Some notables-80's, Hall & Oates, Fleetwood Mac.

except for one big New Jersey exception :(2 Gary and i like the same music
they now call it oldies
but classic rock
also a fair bit of older country
some pop
at work we listen to an oldies station that does everything across several genres from Frank sinatra through to the 90's, quite a lot of classic country
lots of the 70s
not much 90s
some days its all 80s and i feel like im at high school again
i know almost all of it

but this is my musical love
my favorite of the newer stuff we have been enjoying recently
videos are a bonus (i was an 80s teen)

I like both kinds of music.

Country AND Western :lol-2:

Uh oh, it’s getting deep.

We need examples. I don’t have much country in my playlists but here’s a few you may enjoy (which I’m sure you’ve already heard).

I can’t wait to check out everyone’s videos! I’m not a country fan but we saw Chris Stapleton in concert in late 2021 and he was amazing!!

5FDP are cool, they get a bit of a bad wrap in some metal circles but I quite like their music.

Been loving Mudvayne again lately, especially their album Lost and Found. The way Ryan leads the songs with his Bass playing just isn't common in music at all let alone the heavy scene and Chad's voice is just almost heavenly. I reckon even @kenny would appreciate the musicianship on this song.

Not keen on heavy rock and metal.

80s pop, swing and jazz, and classical.

DK :))

Oops forgot to share one video. Working out right now and this song is playing

This came out years after our wedding but of it hadn’t I would have used this for our wedding song. I love it and it embodies what our marriage is all about imo

A few more....

I love Great Gig in The Sky, I've been listening to Dark Side of The Moon on repeat lately! My current favourite along with The Division Bell.

:doh:How could I have forgotten about the one and only Elvis?

I love classic 70’s rock. Faves being Billy Joel, Bob Seger and Pink Floyd. I also enjoy some Motown and country. :)

Thank you for the kind words, they mean a lot. I am glad those songs touched your heart. It’s truly amazing how music can have those effects on us.

And Mrs Sledge is doing better. I should probably make a separate post but after nearly a month in the hospital she is home. Short version is she had strokes twice. We got a diagnosis of CNS vasculitis this last hospital stay. However earlier this week some of her genetics testing came back and we learned she also has CADASIL. We are now unclear if both are running parallel or if symptoms are masked. Both are fairly rare and we have started conversations with Mayo Clinic for a second opinion and confirmation of the right treatment plan.

I know @RunningwithScissors is facing her own medical battles right now. I think @mrs-b just overcame a major surgery. And I’m sure there are others silently facing their own demons. It’s hard to stay strong mentally but perhaps this song can offer some encouragement to anyone that needs a reminder they are enough and can overcome whatever obstacle they are facing. Godspeed my friends!

Too many to mention (mostly '50's/'60's/'70's pop, rock, and soul), but these guys are my all-time faves (cheesy '80's videos and all!). I've lost count of how many times I've seen them in concert:

And Daryl on his internet show with the great Smokey Robinson:

I always say I live everything from ABBA (a little bit) to ZZ Top, but The Beatles will always be my favorite. I love the early Beatles the best, and then the later Beatles. I didn't care so much for the Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine or Sgt. Pepper era, but I didn't dislike them. It's nearly impossible to pick my very favorite - always puts a smile on my face, but I Should Have Known Better is it. I'll link it, followed by Ask Me Why which is another among many favorites. I grew up a half block behind what was then Elitch Gardens in Denver, when they were a small nice amusement park, not the 6 flags thing they grew into when they moved the park. I would fall asleep listening to people screaming on the roller coaster and the music they would play - Ask Me Why got a lot of air time. And I can not not sing when the Beatles are playing.

Classic rock; Southern Rock; some Country and what I would guess you call pop. No rap at all.
Really like Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Adelle, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Todd Rudgren (Something/Anything) Boz Skaggs (Silk Degrees), Beatles, Little Feat, Matchbox Twenty, etc.

I mainly listen to singer-songwriters but across all genres
Joni Mitchell
Neil Young
Mariah Carey
Janet Jackson
JoJo (Levesque, not Siwa)
Clark Sisters
Erykah Badu

I love old funk (from Detroit, I love Motown sound) and Blues-based rock. Stevie Wonder to White Stripes to Dire Straits to Jay Z to AC/DC to Eminem to Skye to George Clinton to Prince to Nirvana and Alice in Chains. I love music in general.

My Youtube mix is all over the place. Give me anything but country.

Wow! Sounds like she has really been through it and I know when things aren’t right with her, they are not right with you. Hang in there and best of luck with Mayo Clinic. Top notch and here is hoping they can figure it all out for her. Please give her our best and our thanks for sharing you with PS as I am sure your time is doubly valuable now. PS has been a good diversion for many in troubled times. It can provide a stepping off place from the real world for a bit and it can help give a mental break. Take good care of yourself and the Mrs. - you will both be in our warmest thoughts!

Sending good thoughts and prayers to both you and your wife @sledge. I’m sorry you are going thru so much. I know you are taking good care of your wife. Please remember to take good care of yourself too.
