People used to attribute brilliance, fire and scintillation to the beauty of a diamond.

Diamonds? I thought this forum was about emeralds this whole time!

I picked Good balance of all three but the answer I really wanted was the most I can get of all 3.
ie: 3vh+ b-scope 9.8isee2
Which while can be called "Good balance of all three" is not the same thing.

Then there is the asscher which looking 10 miles deep like you can lose yourself in it is the important part with flash and fire being second.

There is nothing I hate more in my fav shape (princess) than a drak center... if it has one, I don't care how brilliant it is...how much fire it has....

Fire and scintillation, with fire being the more important to me.

Good balance...because I have seen a stone that is mostly brilliance and no fire/scint...and have seen the great balance of all three, the stone I have now. It's hands down better than the previous stone, so to me it's the 3 that all work together to create the beautiful stone, not one standing out over the others.

What a shaped stone can't have all three, thus making the criteria ALL FOUR?!

I vote a nice shaped stone with fire, brilliance, scintillation.

But then again, I am a color snob, so I would want that in the colorless range please...

Is clarity considered "other"...?

Hi Nicrez,

Count me in, I’m with you.

Shape, fire, brilliance, scintillation – I, too, believe that these are the four attributes of a diamond’s beauty. Not one should be left behind but it usually is.

Kindest regards always,
Linda

Scintillation, brilliance, a clean table and of coarse a bargain is always a bonus (that is probably in the "other" category). The perfect symmetry of some rough is beautiful in and of itself as well.

Well... I'd say the shape does it alone, even if the other three attributes are not there. No one wears diamonds on a string: while using standard cut stones is not really a limitation on jewelry design, the pieces that match the cut of the stones to the shape and patterns of the jewelry piece appeal to me that much more. Not sure this makes allot of sense, but it does to me.

The most beautiful characteristic of a diamond is the profit you get from the sale.

I know, I know... but hopefully buyers would never find out ? Unless you happen to sell investment diamonds

, right ?

A good balance of all three along with a great price. But, mainly, it should look beautiful and sparkly to me.

The problem with this poll is that different people will consider "good balance" differently

That's where Octonus' fuzzy logic system will be needed.
