Well, there is also a safety issue to consider. I had a 2.05 D-VS2 Oval set in a 4 prong mounting. One night at orchestra rehearsal, some guy slammed a door on my hand, it bent one of the prongs, and my diamond fell to the floor. I sat through 3 hours of rehearsal with a diamond in my pants pocket. After that incident, I always set my center stones with 6 prongs. 6 prongs are my favourite, by far, on RB''s. I think they enhance the roundness of the the stone, and make the diamond look a bit like a snowflake, or a flower.![]()
I prefer 4 prongs to 6 on an oval, though. And I like emerald cuts when they''re gypsy-set.![]()
