What is your special gift?

No "special gifts" here.
To an atheist the term 'gift', as used in this thread, is a misnomer.

Anything good about me is either something I worked to get, or something that just is.
But in a culture with a 'Thanksgiving' national holiday I realize what I'm saying falls on largely deaf ears.

No god "gives" me anything, nor is there a god to thank.
Things just are.

Tyty, I tell my son annoying is part of the job description and we always want to do our best at our job! Lol!

Begonia, it must be hard to be highly sensitive because that can take a lot of energy away from you and like you said you also become an easy target. You are giving the world a wonderful gift of kind children, we need more kindness in this world!

Valeria, I had to ask my husband because I couldn't come up with anything, so if you ask an SO or friend you might be surprised at what they say.

Kenny, do you have any special abilities? Maybe you are a self taught artist or musician or something like that. Everyone has something special about them that makes them unique, that is really what this is all about.

I think well.

There you go Kenny, and I'm willing to bet there are other accomplishments that make you unique, this thread isn't about anything other than celebrating those things and sharing them. Sort of a "getting to know you" thread if you will.

My secret gift is being able to make balloon animals at kids parties, my not so secret gift is being able to drop the F-bomb as much as the other two lovely ladies on this forum except it probably has far less panache when said with my dry Aussie accent. :)

I'm also a borderline very high functioning Aspergers person meaning I hate large crowns, hugs, loud noises, can't cope with ADHD people or children or loud or hyper people for anything other than short periods of time. The good thing about it is I have a highly critical mind, the ability to over analyse everything, and probably to some people's horror I'm always brutally honest to the point of making a lot of people uncomfortable.

what a wonderful thread. Those of you I “know”, i feel as though I really know you much better now. Some of the comments are a true revelation.

I’m not sure what my gift is... I’m very good at siting & designing buildings,; combining asthetics with function. It feels like a sixth sense because i have the ability to visualize the entire process like a movie in my head.
In high school I had the highest score in my grade class for mechanical aptitude. I started to drive when I was eight, and still love machinery. I wanted to learn engine repair, but in my day girls didn’t take shop, so I suffered through home ec.
Also I am good at communicating with animals, and I have a green thumb, and I’m good at problem solving. Running a horse farm is a great place to use this skill set.

...wow, I just surprised myself by writing all this. To anyone who is reading the thread, but hasn’t written anything yet, I recommend the exercise!

Kenny, you did not mention your ablity to see and photograph beauty.

Mine is more a "stupid pet trick" than a gift. I can easily solve scrambled word puzzles like Jumble. I just look at the letters and read the word. It doesn't really look scrambled to me on first glance.

I’m jealous. The scrambled word puzzles always frustrate the heck out of me.

I am, to quote my friend Ann, a "good sayer of things."

I would love this skill. I lose words now — maybe because I don’t read enough good books nowadays.

I’m a good reader of faces as I can pick up micro expressions. It’s subconscious, but I can tell when people aren’t being totally up-front. I don’t look at people’s faces as much, because it’s easier to believe their white lies :cool2:

Arkie, with that balloon animal making skill you are the star of any party, even adults can't resist a cute balloon animal. I've found this world is not well suited for brutally honest people (I appreciate this trait immensely) but I have a lot more respect for someone who can tell it like it is, anyone can BS you, it takes balls to step out of that line.

Jimmianne, it takes a special mind to have an eye for design and architecture, it's too bad that this natural inclination was stifled early on but it doesn't look like it's slowed you down any!

T-c, that is a great ability especially if you're in law enforcement outside of that just to be able to tell when someone is being authentic is great, who wants to surround themselves with people who hide behind some facade? On the flip side it's true that ignorance can be bliss, always a double-edged sword.

Not being bestowed with brains or beauty, a great singing voice, or any other talents, I’d say my gift is that I’m a good judge of character. DH says I’m too quick to judge, but I’ve never been wrong about anyone. If I sense something ‘off’ about them, it always turns out I’m right.

My only other ‘gift’ is that I can carry a colour in my head - by that I mean if I see something, I will know that it will be a perfect match or go with something I may already have - if that’s a gift :D

Austina, absolutely a gift and fascinating that you have that great of a memory for color also convenient, you never have to haul things around to color match

I think well.

I have a good eye for color in diamonds.

I’m good with numbers. Math comes naturally to me (mostly) and, when learning new things, it almost feels like dejavu sometimes. I should say that this hasn’t really paid off in any way. :lol-2:

I’m also a good test taker. I can pass a test on subject matter that I know very little about. Again - not sure this has really paid off.

Madam, glad you found PS, you can use your gift to help others as much as yourself!

Puppmom, I greatly admire anyone who is good at math and it is such an important skill to have, always in awe of the mathematically inclined. The test taking probably helped you get excellent grades in school so there's that.

I have a gift of being a natural cook. I don’t follow recipes, and can re-create most restaurant cuisine by taste. When people ask me for recipes, they get a shrug (don’t know and don’t have one!)

I’ll ask DH later what he thinks mine is... if I remember lol

Yay I remembered to ask DH but then forgot to post:

His first response was something rated NSFW so I pushed him to think of something else.

He said my ability to sense when someone’s off or shady. That I’m intuitive to know people’s intentions. I’ve been able to identify when people are only seeking a relationship bc they’re bored, they’re fascinated, or they’re faking a friendship for ulterior motives. This skill isn’t immediate.. but I’ve been right so far.

This topic opened up a really nice conversation for our hour long commute, so thank you!

Jaysonsmom, can you do desserts too? I ask because I know desserts require precise measurements and although I can throw a pot of soup together and make most entrees without a recipe, desserts are like an abyss to me.

Madelise, it's great to have that intuition, as for the other gift....well you go girl! We had fun trying to come up with all the different special things about our friends, but I do think it's easier for someone else to see what "gifts" we have so I'm glad you asked your DH.

I have some pretty extreme patience. I worked in retail for over 10 years in customer service and since then I am a special education teacher. I strictly teach children with Autism (on the severe end) and extreme patience is an absolute necessity.

I'm apparently really funny, especially when I'm serious. It's a combo of how I think and my delivery. Apparently my humor is atypical bc i often get a laugh and the response "only you". It seems to help diffuse situations and break the ice.

I've also been told that I offer a perspective that's unique - viewpoint C when most are offering A and B for consideration.

I'm just :loopy:

I can attest that you are very ****ing funny, spit out your drink funny :)

Asscherhalo, thank you for all that you do, being a teacher is hard, maybe that's why you were given the gift of patience, to fulfill your future purpose. Also major props for working in retail, I wouldn't last ten days never mind ten years!

I can copy desserts, but to a lesser extent. It is harder for me to recreate desserts from my head....but I have pieced together a few online recipes to create gourmet desserts that I have tasted in restaurants. A couple that come to mind is are apple pie with vanilla custard filling. I also created a pina colada cheesecake with a crushed pineapple jello layer on top.

Applie pie with custard filling sounds amazing :lickout:

Even being able to copy a dessert is amazing, I'm better at eating than making them so props to you!
