To stay out of the Doctor''s office for the rest of my life!

You go girl!

Lost, you''ve come a long way towards your dream in the last year. So proud of you.

As for me: Learn to speak Italian, renovate an old tuscan villa, with a garden big enough for a greenhouse and a vegtable garden.

Well, my first lifelong dream I never achieved, and that was to be a doctor. My dream now is to retire at a somewhat young age, hopefully by my mid forties.

I''ve been fortunate that I''ve been able to fulfill a lot of my dreams already...becoming a doctor, finding a great husband, speaking another language (Spanish, although I''m not fluent), and skydiving (I''ve wanted to do that for so long and finally did this year!). These days some of my dreams include owning a condo or small townhouse, living in California, learning Japanese and Mandarin, continuing to keep music in my life (2 instruments and classical singing), becoming both skilled and confident enough to sing a solo in front of a lot of people, retiring at a reasonable age with a comfortable savings, and making it to our 50th anniversary.

My lifelong dream is quite simple: I wish to live long, healthy, and happy with my loved ones and have no financial worries so we are free to to whatever makes us happy!

Wow, I LOVE reading about everyone''s dream. I guess it''s not surprising that travelling seems to be the recurring theme, and yet it really *is* one of the most amazing things one can do, learning abt other people''s culture and immersing yourself in their day-to-day life, visiting museums and art galleries to glean a bit more about their history and again their culture, visiting historical places as well as seeing beautiful natural landscapes, trying to speak a different language, eating different types of foods etc. YAY!!

Mine is probably too big to post here. Overall though. I want to become a nutritionist who works in food sciences to help develop better foods and eating systems for people. I want SO and I to get married, have a family and be comfortable. I want us to get to have great adventures together doing all the things we would like to do. I want to breed beautiful arabian horses and watch their babies in my back yard when I'm too old to ride.
Wow, I'd LOVE to hear about your dream. It sounds so amazing!!

I love horses, they're such intelligent beautiful animals and arabian horses are just the best.

Haven, I LOVE your idea of that *haven*!! I can''t wait to see it. I''d LOVE to visit it too. You *must* post more about it.

Phoenix "scoots" off to check out the "who''s who'' thread to read more about this haven.

My dream is to write a book and have it published. It's started, but I have a LONG way to go.

Haven, I think that idea is great!

Our dream is to own a pied-a-terre in Paris. To that end, I'm learning French through Rosetta Stone right now (it'd be more fun to go to Haven's 'camp,' though!). From there we can easily visit the rest of Europe.

And Phoenix, I definitely want to travel other places as well! Greenland (I am so fascinated by the disappearance of the Norse colonies there after 500 years), Buenos Aires . . .

But to be honest, I am a lucky girl. We are very comfortable and have more than we need. If I'm never able to get a second home in Paris or travel more than I already have, I can't complain. It would certainly be icing on the cake, though!
That sounds so awesome!! Yay!
36.gif
. Ditto re Haven's camp.

I too am trying to learn French. I can speak a little French but would love to be fluent. Truth be told, I should be learning Mandarin right now. How do you find Rosetta Stone? Is it very helpful? I go to Alliance Francaise and find myself amongst a bunch of teenagers, sure way to make one feel old![
23.gif

I'd also love for us to live a year or two in France. Do you just want to visit France or live there? I'm just so fascinated by everything that's French. God knows why!!

Honestly, I have no idea (is that sad?) I never really seriously thought about it! DH and I have only been on one vacation together, but there are SO many places I want to travel with him, so I guess traveling to all those places would be included in that ''lifelong dream'' but I don''t have any specific places in mind because I never really thought about it too much
2.gif
I want to live a long, happy, healthy life with him and retire and travel all over the world.

I did just see this though: a world cruise... 118 days... $78,595
''From San Diego (California) to Fort Lauderdale (Florida) aboard Seven Seas Voyager, featuring 49 ports of call in North America, islands of the South Pacific, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Bonaire, Philippines, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Maldives, Seychelles, South Africa and the Caribbean.''
Awwww!! I think that''s SOOO GREAT!!!

Btw, the Maldives are just awesome!!

Ditto, LS.

Gailey, your dream sounds similar to mine, except mine would be in France, probably somewhere like Bordeaux or Provence.

I could talk about it for ages.
I''ve found a few pieces of property that might work, so here''s hoping.

Maybe I''ll have the first PS retreat at the Haven once it''s up and running! Oh, the possibilities: diamond cutting, metalworking, CAD design . . .

I have many! No way I could narrow it down to one.

One of them is to swim in the bioluminescent bay.
Another is to own a home, however teeny, in Hana (Maui)... my favorite place in the world.
Another is to go on an Amazon Rainforest EcoTour.
Another is to make it outside of Earth''s atmosphere.

Too many dreams...

ETA: Sorry, I missed that you said you want to own a pied-a-terre in Paris. That would be FANTASTIC!!
36.gif

Where in Paris do you see yourselves? I LOVE Paris (just in case anyone misses that I LOVE France, he he!!
2.gif
), it's tres chic!! I don't know why some people say that Parisians are stuck-up. We have not found that at all.

You're right of course about visiting the rest of Europe from Paris. You can take the train to go to so many places. You could also try the various high-speed trains (I forget the exact names), very convenient and of course fast!.

My dream is to help build/create green cities.
Beautiful places where nature and the exciting bustle of humanity meet. A harmony of green and glass, steel and soil, concrete and cascading water - a real urban jungle. The truth is most people spend so much time in cities and don''t have time to connect with nature, and I''d like to change this. (Also incorporate power efficiency and help cities go carbon neutral, and improve public transportation.

Travel is also a big one, and I''d like to leave a sizable cheritable legacy either as scholarships/bursaries, or funding for the homeless/international development.

Another dream of mine (more for the world than myself) is to ensure that every person has access to clean, safe drinking water.

Haven: Naramata Center does what you describe - There are adult courses in the morning and afternoons are free to hang out. The center also spends intentional time building community among participants - You should go for a week some summer for research purposes! It is run by the united church of canada, so it''s not totaly secular, but it''s realy not that churchy either. I have spent many summer weeks there, and it definately sounds like what you''re describing. People end up coming back again and again.

Cheers,
HD

To retire and live financially comfortably and also be able to grow old with DH, be fully engrossed in our kids lives as well as our grand kids and hope we''re still alive for the great grand kids as well.

Something else I''d dearly love to do is take my gramma and mom back to Australia. When Grampa was alive, they wintered there every year, and the way they talked about it..it was like Eden to them. It''s been 20 years now that Grampa''s been gone, and Gramma''s never been back-but she still gets stars in her eyes when she talks about it, and you can hear a change in her voice too. Mom loved it so much too..it seems like a magical place, and I''d love to experience it with them.

HopeDream--That''s a very interesting link, thank you! I''ve never found anything that is as similar to my vision for the Haven as this, it''s like the Haven with a spiritual bent. Very interesting!

I just forwarded the link to my mom, maybe we''ll check it out for a week! Any program recommendations?

Hi Haven!

As far as programming goes - it depends on what you like to do.

Tai chi with Hajime is always good (he''s very cool) , and Yoga with Marion Mconnel (Mugs) is often a favorite (she''s warm and down to earth) (both I''ve taken courses with). Don Mckay is also an interesting fellow to take courses with - what he teaches varies year to year. A story telling course with either Dayton or David Roche is definately worth taking.

The mountain biking courses are also often quite popular because the country is beautiful and there are trails across the old kettle valley railway tressels.

The digital photography course has been running for a number of years, so it must be good - I''ve never taken it. Stained glass has also been quite popular. Many of the crafting-type classes are quite cool.

Naramata continuously changes up which programs are offered in the summer. If the program is a good one, the program leader (who is just there a week, like the participants) is invited back. Some courses are so popular that they fill up the first day registration is open in February!

If you or your mom are low income, you can apply for a heartwood bursary to help cover the registration costs.

The food served in the cafeteria is fairly good, and it''s a nice place to meet people (the Wednesday bbq at the beach and the Friday smorgasboard are considered a must by many participants).

I''d be happy to answer any other questions you may have. (I was on staff there for few summers, and I have also attended as a participant).

(Sorry if this is a thread-jack!)

Well, in the big picture, it would be for our family to be happy and healthy...(I, and some family members, suffer from depression, so this is a real issue...the "happy" part).

I have always had smaller more "trivial" dreams like getting my PhD from Harvard (instead, I got masters from Columbia and Penn--so I am still lucky), watching my little brother graduate from UCLA, going to travel Europe for a few months (especially Italy), having my husband get a job he really, really loves, or owning a fantastic ring from Harry Winston
31.gif
(random, I know!)...but my ultimate real life-dream is to own a single-family home with my husband, have a child, and live near (really near) my parents...and brother. Just a nice, quiet, family life with everyone together and my dad finally being able to retire...and we travel too....

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like all of that will happen, but I guess that is why it is called a dream.

Mine USED to be to go on The Price is Right...but now that Bob Barker retired...meh.

Have our own successful business, don''t have to worry about money, and had enough money to travel, and live well

Ha! No one really kisses Drew, do they??

I haven''t really thought about this... I tend to set more short-term goals. Got through nursing school, moved outta mom''s (a huge deal to me), got married... now our goal is to find a house, then start a family. And career-wise, I want to get my CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) certification, hopefully this fall.

I guess ultimately I''d want to live comfortably, raise happy children... and I''d love to have vacation homes in the Poconos and the Jersey Shore, or maybe North or South Carolina.

My dream goal is to hit the Powerball... then I''d have a PS raffle (free tickets, of course), and the winner would get a nice rock! Hehe... I''d have you guys pick a number between 1 & 1000000, and whoever guesses closest wins! lol... a girl can dream, right??

My dream has always been:

- be well educated CHECK
- own my house CHECK
- have a successful career CHECK
- be happily married CHECK
- have children
- own a 2ct EC
- own property in Spain

4 out of 6 so far ain''t bad, working on the children thing just now and hopefully in the next 5-10 years have my place in Spain, happy days!!

I think it''s important to dream and have realistic goals and ambitions in life, it gives you hope and something to work towards.

... To lend my voice to a major film/movie.

Still working on that one!

To be a globe trotting motivational speaker who inspire others to do great things!

My dream is to find a man that loves me and that I love. Own a few properties in America and have this as our income source to fund our trip around the world. Luxury travel is incredibly amazing. I don''t just want to travel, I want luxury travel.
I hear you!

I''d love to travel in style.

To climb Mt. Everest. Even bigger, to climb the highest peak on each continent.
Wow!! That''d be an amazing achievement. I think you should totally go for it. There was a team of 5 girls in Singapore who climbed Mt E recently and they were only in their 20''s. I think the youngest was 19. What an accommplishment at such a young age!

To stop sweating the small stuff, suck up my pride, and appreciate each day.

Never gonna happen I''m afraid. Haha. At least I admit it.
I say that everyday and yet it still hasn''t happened yet!

DH and I were talking recently about how much we would LOVE to eventually own a bar that speclaizes in microbrews and wine with awesome cheese plates. We really love these kinds of places (and thankfully Philly has a few of them) and I think we would be good at it.

I used to say that I always wanted to be an event planner but after planning my own wedding I am thinking that I still wouldn''t mind it but I wouldn''t want to do weddings- or at least not have it be my only kind of client.

So I guess you could say that my lifelong dream has been to do something that I considered fun for a living. I do like my chosen career (in composite materials) but its not as "fun" as owning a bar or being an event planner.
