I remember a while ago Yssie doing some great data gathering regarding the mean, median, mode of the carat sizes of ERings owned by PSers. I just thought it would be fun to get a general idea of where carat sizes stackup now.

CENTERSTONE VOTES only!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and since my ERing stone is 1.55 I went in the 1.6 range, up to you if you round up or down.

Well, I goofed! My center stone is 2.22 so I voted that and then read to tally up all stones. That would have been 2.88 and been in another range - sorry! Should have read first!

I only counted my center stone (.92), not the sides (.15 each).

I'm going to skew the results! I wear a medium width Cartier Trinity as my wedding band and I don't have an engagement ring.

I think it will lose meaningfulness unless people just post their center stone size.

This ... the variation between the cost/size/effect of a .50 center stone and a .50 eternity band is pretty massive.

Mine is 1.5 carats, but it took me 25 years to get it.

Yep! Just center stones- wedding bands don't count towards the total. After some insightful comments centerstone only :)

I hate to argue with methodology, and feel like a giant dork doing it, given that this is an internet poll with all the inherent flaws of an internet poll, but...

Given that (to my understanding) price jumps happen when you cross into a new carat threshold, wouldn't it make more sense to have 1.0 grouped with the +1 group instead of the .51 group (and so on up the scale)?

Haha. Did not account for price jumps- but then again I didn account for the economy--- pre and post rise in prices which would Also have an impact

I guess I should pay closer attention. My E-ring's center stone is 2.05cts and the setting is 1.35cts.

1 ct for me, actually 1.017 to be exact, so I put mine in the 0.51-1 group.

I still struggle with "mine" vs. "inherited" vs. "heirloom"

I mostly just thank people when they comment on it. I'm tired of talking about one of the most important people in my life that I had to lose to inherit it. But I feel like a "faker" if I just smile when people say "HOW DID YOUR HUSBAND AFFORD THAT?"

:( Sorry to be a downer. I really miss my gma. Blah. Now I'm going to cry.

Somehow I think the categories are two big. I thought I would be in the minority with a .52, but after voting I see that my ring is in the majority, primarily because it's in the same category with stones up to 1ct.
