What is up with this diamond design?

I don''t think it is "more brilliant" than H&A.... that''s a spready round all right with reasonably good brilliance. Nice find for a pendant rather than a ring, IMO.

Hi ALW,

The diamond you identified is a common round brilliant. It does not have physical symmetry of the caliber of many round diamonds evaluated in Pricescope threads, so that’s why you may have thought it was a specialized cut when, in fact, this is the look you see in many pedestrian diamonds out there in the ‘real world.'

A Hearts & Arrows diamond (I imagine that’s what you mean by ‘arrows design’) is cut with very precise patterning to align the facets for optimum performance. That is why you can see a well-aligned, kaleidoscopic pattern of eight arrows in images of those diamonds. Of course, with extra precision and tight proportions comes a premium, so well-patterned diamonds typically cost more.

That 1.23 G VS1 you identified is not cut so precisely, thus is asymmetrical in appearance. It also has less depth, a largish table and a very shallow crown angle compared to diamonds that are considered top performers. This is an attractive diamond, particularly for a pendant (shallow stones do very well in pendants/earrings), but it's by no means a top make:

The plus is the price. It was selected as good value for its size/spread considering how well it actually does perform.

This is what it got on the HCA:

Factor Grade
Light Return Very Good
Fire Good
Scintillation Very Good
Spread or diameter for weight Excellent
Total Visual Performance 2.7 - Very Good - Worth buying if the price is right

Interesting . . .
