What is this?

And this didn't qualify for the Poor Cut grade WHY? http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VVS2-Good-Cut-Round-Diamond-1326910.asp

(I do think the first two I posted have promise-- despite some of the ones, like the above, that are just eyesores).

Some of the stones they purchase ...one has to wonder ...what are they thinking? Could you really sell this stone? I know they don't throw them away but really surprising some of the yucky looking stones they purchase.

I ran across this, looking for something else.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS1-Good-Cut-Round-Diamond-1429007.asp Is this a new, old style roundish thing? Tables bigger than you'd think for an old style. Culet is there. Depth for an old cut is not surprising. Neither is the GIA cert. But whatever is going on there in the center isn't saying old cut to me. Just a REALLY bad cut round? Inquiring minds.

I'm liking this one...i would guess "transitional". Oh, and thanks for the "Wonky" thread...interesting.

Well, who needs edge to edge light return, anyhow?

I like that. I was thinking something along the lines of a 1.3 carat diamond that looks like a 80 point diamond. But I like yours better.

Forget who's buying these barkers, who's idea it is to post the pics? There should be a category called "the photo won't do it justice--let us send it to you and you can judge for yourself!" We all know that some people can't tell a good stone from a bad one, and they will just fall in love with whatever is in the box when they open it. I can't imagine any other way that some of these will ever leave the land of inventory and end up in a piece of jewelry!

But my "friend" the jeweler said it's a 'needle in a haystack' stone that is super spready and will look even bigger to boot because it has a large table! http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-IF-Good-Cut-Round-Diamond-1412144.asp

No. I'm not sure at all with that one. I originally just posted it because it was interesting. I'd love to get an ASET (not an IS) of it. When I first started the thread it was just 'curious stones'... it morphed into 'dear god! What is that??" after that first stone.

Some of the weird stones you posted here are truly horrific Gypsy - although it makes for great entertainment!

Regarding the vintage ring, I'm still crazy it and called the store today - still available. The uniqueness adds to the appeal. I'm probably too risk-averse to purchase but if I did I'd want to get an ASET to share with Pricescope.

Does this one look similar? If it's Transitional wouldn't it be post 1930s?
