What is this diamond worth?

Hi - New here! I'm still learning a lot from this website and have a question. I found this diamond that I think looks like it may be a good purchase from a jeweler around my area, but I'm hoping that some of you on here can help me with the average "worth" of this diamond. Some of you on here have a lot more experience in prices with stones, so I'm hoping you can give me a ballpark guesstimate of how much a diamond like this would be?

Here's the specs/report of the diamond.

How much is the diamond? The bigger the table the less it'll cost.

14~17k based on Bluenile's pricing.

They are selling it for 19k, so much for a deal huh?

The diamond looks nice, and its eye clean, but I can see a very small dark inclusion to the right of the table, but only with a 10x glass. Thought it was a good deal at 19k since it's eye clean.

If your budget is 20k for a 2.0 carat stone and need some help, you may want to start a new thread with a more appropriate subject. Specify the total budget, 4Cs and settings you are interested in. You will get alot of advice that way. You have alot of options with that budget and can do alot better than this stone; this stone is no good at the price.

So even if I were to work the price down to 18, it still wouldn't be a good deal? I'm really trying to stay local, it just makes me a bit nervous dealing with a huge purchase price for a stone I cant see in person...

I'll give you my perspective as on online seller of diamonds:
If you can walk into a store, and look at a stone in person, that's worth something.
How much? That's more of a personal comfort question.
I agree with flyingpig - if price is the only consideration, online is going to win the day. I would not go as far to knock the stone without seeing it. It could be a very nice diamond- it certainly does spread well.

Hypothetically speaking- if online is $19k, and B&M is $20k, the B&M has a very good shot with a lot of buyers.
That would be if all things were equal in terms of cut, etc.
If we're looking at a 60% table diamond, I don't necessarily find that smaller tables cost more when I look at stones on the market.
In terms of the cut in general, you do have an advantage looking in person.
AS you can see, smaller tables are very popular here on PS< but not necessarily in the real world. Remember that there's a lot of taste involved in the selection process.
Given that there's a "cheat sheet" for proportions posted frequently here on PS that will exclude the stone you're looking at, it's not likely that people here will recommend it- but I have found that the "cheat sheet" leaves my ( and may other people's) personal favorite stones on the cutting room floor....

I’m a big fan of supporting local merchants, but you’ve asked an impossible question.

1) Markets matter. As mentioned above, full service jewelry stores generally charge more than discount internet joints. That applies to most things, not just jewelry by the way. A store in a Vegas casino is likely to cost you more than the ‘Hey buddy, wanna buy a diamond?’ guy out in the parking lot. That’s just the nature of things. A hot dog costs more at the ballpark. In general, the more expensive merchants have more value added. That can be things like financing, easy return or tradeup policies or, yes, a convenient showroom where you can go to look at the goods. Of course those things cost money. How can they not. The trick is deciding what you value and what you don’t. For example: A lot of the more expensive stores offer ‘free’ financing. 18 months same as cash. I would never recommend doing such a deal, but who’s surprised if the base price is higher? More importantly, if you’re not interested in that anyway, that’s probably not the right store for you.

2) After you decide what you want, it’s a matter of finding alternative offers for something similar. That’s a 2.09/GIA/I/VS2/xxx/faint. I see 14 stones advertised in the database here searching for 2.08-2.11cts and otherwise the same specs. The median asking price is $18,836. This from highly price aggressive Internet sellers. Most are local somewhere but it's likely that not even one of them meets the primary stated goal of wishing to shop local.

Using the above, it looks like the ‘premium’ you’re paying for local service is a few hundred dollars on a $20k purchase. It’s not clear if they have anything else to add, or even if you’re interested in anything else, but this is a fine topic to discuss with them. Why should you buy from them? They know they have competitors. It’s then up to you to decide if they’re worth it to you but, frankly, that’s cheap. Given the goal is local suppliers, there probably aren’t all that many to choose from. Pick a couple and go ask them. What would they charge for something similar, and why should you buy from THEM?

I'm pretty sure that places like Blue Nile will allow you to return a stone if you get it and do not like it. They have excellent customer service.

I would not buy that stone even at 15k. An important fact is the stone is less than ideal. It is not a bad stone. It is still GIA ex.
You are paying 2~3k premium just to see the diamond and to shop locally.

I love supporting local businesses. I just found one whose pricing structure is very similar to Jame Allen (if not cheaper), and am currently working with the company. I am sure you can find a better local wholesaler who offer better pricing.
Shop around and ask your local vendor to find a stone with these specs

2.0 carat. I VS2. eye-clean
table 53-58
depth 60-62.3
crown angle 34-35
pav angle 40.6-40.9 (or 41.0 if matched with 34 crown angle)
HCA score less than 2.0

if the vendor willing to offer such stone at a similar price (18k), then I may consider..

My budget was originally about 15k, but was willing to expand a little if I was getting a great deal, but that doesn't look like the case with that stone. Before starting a new thread of "thoughts on such and such stone", I took a look around WF.com to get an idea of what I can get with those specs and ran into this nice looking stone, am I on the right track in search of a stone with the right specs?

Yes.

With that budget, please consider
-Whiteflash A Cut Above/Expert/Premium Selections
-Brian Gavin Signature Selection
-Good Old Gold Ascendancy/Platinum Selection

There are other vendors. This should be a good starting point. See some stones, start a new thread, provide a few links of diamonds/settings you are interested, and wait for more experienced members' comments
