Hi,

I am new to the forums at PS, but have used the search tools to look at prices and came across this diamond. I got this information from a copy of the GIA report.

1.2 CT
6.77 X 6.80 X 4.22
62.2% depth
55% table
medium faceted girdle
no culet
excellent polish
vg symmetry
VS2 clarity
G color
no fluor.

The report shows some crystal clouds in the center of the diamond. Any help or advice is appreciated. The asking price is $7299 including a 14k white gold setting.

Thanks

Hello Shai....

Welcome to the forums. I think you will find more information than you ever imagined here.

I am assuming this stone is a round so here is what you know so far.....

1)The depth and table numbers look good on the surface.
2)The stone is GIA certed so you can be relatively sure of the fairness of the grading.

Now you just need to obtain crown angle and pavillion angle measurements for the diamond. Some vendors will be able to provide these numbers to you.

Once you get these numbers you can gain additional confidence. The most important thing to remember is to look at the stone in a variety of lighting conditions to fully assess performance. You simply cannot buy a diamond on any set of numbers.

Good luck!

I forgot to add that 62.2 depth entered in the search window turns up a variety of posts.

Certainly some individuals would pass on this stone as it will face up smaller than a stone with a smaller depth percentage, but this could be a nice stone none the less.

"I need to learn how to edit earlier posts."

Does this seller provide any further details on at least some of their diamonds ? If so, perhaps they could call this one in and have a look (and produce an IdealSCope photo in the process if possible

). An appraiser could help with the quality check as well if you choose to go that route.

Otherwise, what can I say, GIA has the last word and there is definitely nothing glaring on that report - at least as far as I can tell.

Perhaps some fine line could still be optimized (as per Mara's post) but it is also a matter of time and cost. What if this does turn out to have great proportions and looks ? There are about 2k between this and a H&A with same color/clarity/weight - and there's no telling that one would indeed knock this one off the shelf, from your point of view.

AGS0 graded rounds of comparable size would be SI1 for the money - it may be that your VS2 and a lucky SI1 would be both borderline grades and the SI1 turn out pristine, but that remains to be seen. Just in case, here's one such thing: 7mm, 7.3k, AGS0proportions, G, SI1 There are others where this one come from.

While Mara does bring up a good point regarding spread, I wouldn''t nix a stone just because it had a 62.2 depth. It''s priced accordingly and if the angles are right then you may have something. Give us some Sarin data (crown/pavilion angles), then we can come to a more solid conclusion about this stone.

Hi Shaitanboy

I recently bought a diamond with a 62.1 depth and I just LOVE it.

Mara is right, it does decrease the potential diameter for weight, but I was happy to pay for this, as it gave me a medium to slightly thick girdle. I personally feel more comfortable with this, as this ring will be off my finger infrequently and I wanted to reduce the risk of chipping. Part of the depth also went to a higher crown (15.7%), which gives the diamond a "deliciously plump" look. I think that this contributes to a larger looking stone, even though it does not have a maximum diameter for its weight. The most frequent viewing angle for me when I look at my stone is slightly oblique, so I really get to enjoy this characteristic.

Have fun looking.

Thanks for all your input on this stone. I have not personally seen this stone yet but I am having it sent over to a local B&M where I can inspect the stone. The comment about the stone having the diameter of a 1.12 is something that I had not thought about before, so I will be looking for that as I continue my search. I have requested if I could get the pavilion and crown angles and will post them once I recieve them.
