I''m not sure if this qualifies as thrifty, but many years ago after just having finished college and being tight on money we used to go to the local grocery store on Sundays and check for the sale items. You see, in Michigan at the time if there was an error in the barcode (scanned) price at the checkout counter and you paid for the merchandise (it was important not to flag the error at the register) you were entitled 10 times the price difference up to $5. It was a law that was put in place to counter some of the barcode scan tricks that companies were using. On Sundays, when all the ads started, most of the grocery stores didn''t update their prices and you could make up a lot of the grocery bill. I didn''t feel sorry for the store either, all of the people that purchased the items before us that paid full price were ripped off. You could actually see the manager scrambling after we left to update the prices so it didn''t happen again....
