What is the scantiest (thriftiest) thing you have ever done?

I''m not sure if this qualifies as thrifty, but many years ago after just having finished college and being tight on money we used to go to the local grocery store on Sundays and check for the sale items. You see, in Michigan at the time if there was an error in the barcode (scanned) price at the checkout counter and you paid for the merchandise (it was important not to flag the error at the register) you were entitled 10 times the price difference up to $5. It was a law that was put in place to counter some of the barcode scan tricks that companies were using. On Sundays, when all the ads started, most of the grocery stores didn''t update their prices and you could make up a lot of the grocery bill. I didn''t feel sorry for the store either, all of the people that purchased the items before us that paid full price were ripped off. You could actually see the manager scrambling after we left to update the prices so it didn''t happen again....

I fell in love with this beautiful gold hair stick from lladro... it has porcelain doves and an 18kt gold-plated ''branch.'' I ''had'' to wear it at my wedding, but it was sooo expensive for such a little thing.

So... my mom and I picked a nice little twig off a tree, spray-painted it ''gold,'' and stuck plastic cake decorating birds from Michael''s on it - for about $4 total

Does that count?
Heck yeah that counts! That''s ingenious. I love it when you can figure out a way to get the same look for pennies on the dollar.

I do some of the stuff already posted, but wanted to add...

I sneak food/drinks into the movie theater!

I don''t like to sit through movies without a snack, but their food and drinks are soooo overpriced that I bring my own (I don''t know if it''s true of all theaters, but the ones here clearly say ''no outside food or drinks''). I do often buy popcorn there, though, too.
I almost always sneak food/drink in. A couple years ago, a friend of mine snuck a six pack of beer in..... in glass bottles. You could hear them clanking in her coat pockets.
Me too! Not just because the stuff is way overpriced, but also because I don''t like eating what they have

our favorite movie theatre is in a mall near us that has a FANTASTIC food court (not your typical panda express and sbarro, but really high-quality restaurant- and cafe-style eateries), and we almost always get a meal to take into the movie

If it''s just snacks, I have to have peppermint water and fresh fruit (those little berry tubs they sell at whole foods and the like - YUM!). They really should sell fruit in movie theatres.
