Hi all,
I have been trying to figure out how to describe my wedding band for a while so I can get a full eternity version made.

I have 2 bands (one soldered to my ering and the other is not). I bought them at different times when I knew nothing about jewelry or diamonds. The problem is that I love the style of one and dislike the other. Even after looking at different websites to understand different types of pave/wedding bands I still cant figure out what this style is called.

Here are pics of the band I like (soldered to my ering which has the same style)

When I look closely or use a loup, I believe that each stone is held with 4 tiny prongs.

Here is my stand alone band that I dont really like.

I am not a huge fan of it because whatever style of prongs/setting makes the stones look more square than round (to me), and I see more metal on it compared to my other band and ering.

Here is a pic of them together, which might help people see the differences more clearly. The band on the bottom is the one I want to replace.

My problem is that I cant figure out the name of the style I like to explain it to a jeweler (and I want to buy online bc there arent great jewelers near me). My best guess is that the one I dont like is a 'shared prong' and the one I do like is a 4 prong style, but when I look up 4 prong pave bands I see a lot of examples that look like the band I'm trying to replace.

Help educate me on terminology! Thanks!

I don't know the answer, but I'm interested to see what people say. Like you, I too prefer the look where the prongs are less conspicuous and don't square off the appearance of the diamonds.

I feel like both bands are u-shaped pave bands. The one you don’t like seems to be deeper set. Have you seen this explanation from Victor Canera?:

I guess I'm just unclear about how to communicate that I want something that is "shallower" set vs. "deeper set" if they are both the same style. The VC u-cut band is pretty much perfect, but I have to imagine he isn't the only person who can make something like this (his work is typically out of my budget, and I don't feel strongly about hand forged, etc).

@lovedogs i love your setting! Personally I wouldn’t wear it with another band, it’s so perfect as is imo! Who is the maker of your mounting... have you circled back to that jeweler or manufacturer/designer/brand?

I wish I could tell you definitively buuuuut, I think you want 4 bead bright cut pave. Surface prong. It's a more traditional style pave.prong type.jpg
* wow, just want to add it's really confusing finding out the types of pave there are!

Hmmm... It doesn’t feel like pave to me. If I was standing in line at checkout (when we could stand closer lol), I would be thinking to myself wow that’s a really pretty prong-set mounting. You will need to go custom or order from the maker of this one To get a match so I guess it really doesn’t matter what it’s called. Have you talked to local jewelers?
