My current Maui Jim's were over $350. They have wire frames and glass lenses though. I really wanted a pair with glass lenses! They scratch far less easily and just FEEL classy. I bought them with some money I received for my birthday last year though so nothing straight out of pocket.
I do not like cheap sunglasses. They feel uncomfortable to me and I just don't find myself wanting to wear them. And when I do, I am constantly breaking or losing them. My DH often says the first time he put some expensive sunglasses on after years of wearing cheap ones, it felt like he was wearing a Cadillac on his face...
. He has some Maui Jims too that he has had for a few years.
I however, am pretty careful with my pricey ones. The first pair of expensive ones I ever bought were some Oakley's that I bought when I was about 19. They were about $250. However, I had them until I was about 25 and lost them in the ocean in Cuba. $250 spread over 6 years is not so bad. I waited five years to buy new expensive ones, and hope they last at least as long if not longer.
I have had a few sports sunglasses for running and cycling that I tend to be harder on though and won't spend as much (i.e. less than $100) as I find I end up replacing them once a year or so.
My current sunglasses, from Coach. I think they were ~$250, but I used a GC from my in-laws. I told myself that if I kept my cheapie pair from Target- without losing or breaking them- for six months, I''d treat myself to a nice pair.
I''ve had them for a couple of years now and I treat them very well because I don''t want to have to replace them anytime soon. After I''m done wearing them, they ALWAYS go back into their hard case.
White rayban wayfarers. They were 150 but I got them on ebay for $51. I just got a really cute pair of kate spade''s at Nordstrom Rack and they were only $37! Go me!
Probably my Ray Ban aviators. They retail for around $140 but I got the hook up on them from the Ray Ban rep back when I was a buyer. I''m trying to find a new pair because I''m over the aviators, but nothing is standing out to me.
My Chanel sunglasses, $400 (and a gift). I''m super careful with them though and on vacations I usually bring a cheaper pair (which is good because I drop them a lot!).
I saw some gorgeous Bulgari sunglasses recently that I wanted but ughhh, also $400 - can''t afford it!
I don''t remember. Over $200? I have to get prescription sunglasses, so they''re always expensive and since my regular glasses are even more expensive, I cheap out on the sunglasses.
about $120-$150... I ALWAYS lose them, or break them. I don''t spend the money on them any more. I''m perfectly happy with a cheap pair. If I can remember where I put them
Most expensive non-rx were around $600, most expensive with RX were around $800 IF I had actually paid retail prices. However, I worked in the industry for many years and one of the perks is FREE stuff!!!
The most expensive I actually purchased were in the $150 area.
I got a pair of Coach as a gift a few years back - I think they retailed $150 or so...and then a couple of weeks ago I found another pair at an outlet for $80 - so that''s the most expensive I''ve ever bought.
Funny thing, too...I''m PARANOID about losing my sunglasses, but last Tuesday I carelessly left them in a dressing room. I didn''t realize it until this Saturday and I was so, so, so upset. My sweet DH did a ton of brainstorming to figure out where I might have left them, and shock of all shock the store had held on to them, and my shades and I were reunited. I really lucked out.
I have paid about $200 for a pair of polarized Kate Spade sunglasses. That was two pairs ago. I replaced them with a $110 pair of polarized Arnettes. Then my mother gave me the same Kate Spade glasses (without the polarizing) in a fun frame color (tortoise shell on the outside, green on the inside) that she got form BJs for (I think) around $70. I switch between the Arnettes and Kate Spades now.
