@azstonie we actually did that in early 2008 but not for those reasons, we left because our jobs and lives here were getting boring so we went and lived in Sydney for 2 years and a regional area 2 hours north of Sydney for another 2 years. It was only when we came back in 2012 that the dependence began and it's been ongoing since.
Unfortunately a move now would be hard, even if we stayed within Melbourne as my wife is based on this side of town for work. It's not impossible to move if we stay within Metropolitan Melbourne, to the other side is a 2 hour from here. My wife would have a lot of travel for work and with us wanting our own kid soon I am not sure I would be OK with her driving that far or taking Public Transport for work. For me it's not such a big deal as I went back into surveying 6 months ago under an absolutely amazing contract and am based from home, however my surveying mentor/co-worker/former neighbor/good mate lives 5 mins from my home and can help with my issues for work.
To uproot everything and start again in another state isn't what I am wanting to do though. Kinda tough situation right now.
