What is the CLARITY range before you no longer see the inclusions to the naked-eye?

Also between this range is there any visual difference to the whole diamond even if you can''t see the inclusions to the naked-eye.

Thanks!

I think each one is different, you could find a si1 that is eyeclean to you, but if u look very close you may see some inclusions. You really have to judge each one seperately i think!

Whoa! Lots of questions!

-Clarity
VS2 is generally considered safe and clean until you get to gargantuan sizes - 4cts, maybe?

You mention in your vendor thread that you're on a budget - look for clean SIs. They're out there and they'll save you quite a bit.

If you go with SI2, and the grade-making inclusions are clouds, have the vendor check to ensure the stone isn't sleepy or less brilliant because of it (rare, but it can happen - there was a saga about this a couple of weeks ago..)

-Girdle
look for thin, med or sl thick. v-thin can be a problem, may not be - you'll need the vendor to evaluate on a stone by stone basis. There's nothing wrong with thick girdles, exactly - they're unsightly and hide weight, so your face up size is smaller, but they don't hurt performance. A v-thick girdle probably does, though - I imagine those facets contribute to leakage... avoid extremely anything.

-Fluoro
Opinions vary - you can do a search for some different views. It's not a bad thing in my book. Some like it, some don't, lots of opinions... your odds of running into the 1% or something like that of v-strong blues that turn the stone oily are - well, lets just say low. Strong blue can do some cool things in the sunlight

. Avoid yellow/orange/polkadot fluor.

-GIA/AGS
Again, a search should come up with tons of info. AGS's ID cut range is tighter for performance than GIA's EX range. It's possible to have GIA vgs that fall under AGS ID parametres, and to have GIA Exs that would be AGS Exs. Both are reputable, and choosing well-cut certed stones will narrow it down quite a bit, from there go by numbers and images (and if possible seeing in person!) and you're safe no matter what.

-Negotiating
Internet vendors have small profit margins as it is, so I'd venture "no", but you can always ask.

-Make is just this website's way of signifying that they think it's a great stone - it has no correlation (that I can see anyway) to the GIA grade. FWIW I don't think it's such an ideal make - it's facing up a good 0.15mm smaller than it should, and with that depth it's no wonder.

-Second hand stones
People on this board have had good experiences with Pearlman's. If you're looking for older cuts there's Fay Cullen and Erica Grace, among others... I won't venture into Ebay/craigslist here, but if you screen well they're possibilities too.

You might want to keep your questions to a single thread - just number them or something. Much easier to get the info across all at once

Hahaha yeah quite a few questions, I just didn''t want to put them all in one topic as it could have been question overload for one topic lol!

I see, so VS2 or less should be fine.....don''t worry no 4carat for me, wayyy out of my league!

How do you know what is a clean SI, do you just ask them to check it, or the luck of the draw?

If you're working with a PS vendor you can just ask and expect an honest response.

If you're working with a trusted jeweller you can ask and expect an honest response.

If you're working with pretty much anyone else, including your friend's uncle's friend - you'll want to have an independent appraiser double check, preferably before purchase.

Have you read all the tutorials? They are under the knowledge section on the menu bar at the top of the page. Those tutorials would answer many of your questions.

I can see an inclusion when looking through the pavilion of one of my VS2 stones. The other is eye clean. I have two SI1s and they''re completely eye clean. All are around the same size.

It depends on the diamond. I would read the tutorials, work with a recommended pricescope vendor, and then ask them for their honest opinion (and maybe side by side photos/videos) of your short list of stones...

Hi Vetenks, it seems we''re both in the same boat at the moment, both looking for engagement rings and both in the UK! Maybe we could help each other out?! What shape / size / colour / budget are you looking at?? I have shortlisted quite a few stones that fit within my budget. I''m looking at a round 0.70 - 0.90 ideal cut and looking anf FGH SI1 (as long as it''s eyeclean) and higher.

Hey Mani5ha!! sorry late response, struggling to get online everyday

I know damn us living in UK so expensive and then a tax rip off for anything imported! we still need to find a way to avoid it, may be we should fly out together and get our diamonds! I figure I would save $1500 minus the flight cost, well worth it!

You have a private email?

My budget is about £5000 ($8000-8500) based on currency rates, lets hope the UK has a miracle and the sterling actually becomes strong again to get things cheaper.

I am looking for an IDEAL/EXCELLENT cut, ideally near 1 carat, D-F colour, IF-VS1 clarity and it must be a ROUND BRILLIANT CUT.

speak soon!

I am a fan of colorless diamonds. You can easily drop to VS2 in clarity and if you use a trusted vendor I am sure they can find you an eye clean Si diamond. Have fun shopping.

Here is a link to the clarity tutorial.
For a specific answer to your question there is another link 1/2 way down the page.
(BTW do not post email addresses)
