Hi,

I am a diamond newbie and want to know the following:

Assuming I am presented with a parcel containign many diamonds with the approx. same weight color and clarity and I need to pick out the best cut diamond and I have no ability to send all of them to be certified and measured for proportions.

I need an easy to use, effordable method or tool to help me pick the best cut diamond.

I have heard of the ideal-scope, would it be recommended for someone who is just starting to learn about diamonds to use the ideal-scope or any other affordable method or tool to tell the cut quality of diamonds ?

Thanks

I think if you would get Ideal-Scope and sample CZ you should be able to learn how to pick well cut diamonds very quickly.

You can use the Ideal-Scope to sort through groups of diamonds for brilliancy with great speed and efficiency. There may be other important issues to do with cutting that are not addressed by an Ideal-Scope, but the main issue, light return, is very well done with this simple and inexpensive tool.

Use the advice in the trade only section of the www.ideal-scope site and stick a peice of photo cpoy paper over the dealers lamp as shown in the relevant section.

Never try to grade clarity through the scope.
