What is my cushion diamond worth in a private party sale??

Hi I have a cushion diamond (see GIA report below) that I'm trying to sell to raise some funds for another ring. Realistically what would something like this go for on CL or Ebay? Any advice is appreciated.

My jeweler will give my 3500k trade in credit but I'm sure that requires my purchase on another rock/ring. Pawn shops and diamond buyers have been all over the map on this one but mostly under $2500.

At one time this rock costs cost well over 5k (after negotiation). I guess those 100% margin do exist. Anyhow has the market softened on cushions or is this rock really that sub-par. Be honest, my feelings wont get hurt.

Re: What is my cushion diamond worth in a private party sale

You have to remember that pawn shops offer the lowest offers you'll get, and that most jewelers do not buy their inventory but get it on spec from drop-shippers. So for the jeweler - rather than him just paying to ship the stone, or buying a stone he actively wants for his inventory, he's buying a completely random stone offered to him that may or may not meet his personal criteria for what he wants to buy.

I can't make PS diamond search work right now, but to find a rough guide of what your stone would currently retail for, you can go to resources/diamond search, search for cushions 1.3-1.39 cts, K Si2 GIA graded, and then you'll get some stones back. I'd list at 70%ish of the average or most common price, and accept any offers higher than the $3500 the jeweler gave you.

I also can't make James Allen show me cushion diamonds. bzuh? It's like the internet is conspiring against me. But I found a 1.2 K Si2 princess for 3440 and a 1.4 K Si2 pear for 3610. Those were the closest matches. On ERD, the closest matches were J Si2 fancies, around the $4500 mark. On Solomon Bros there are two K Si2 cushions near your size listed, a 1.3 at $2858 and a 1.4 at $4269.

Depends how fast you want to sell it. Start listing it somewhere like Loupetroop or DiamondBistro, take really clear good photos and pics, scan the GIA report. Ask around the $3800 at the high end to $3500.00 and keep lowering it until you find a buyer for it. That will be a good indication of what the market really is for it. I'd guess the actual price you will end up with will be between $3500.00 and $3000.00, maybe less if you are in a desperate hurry to sell it.

I looked, too, and all I could find were three 1.3 K SI2's listed on the PriceScope diamond search and it appeared to be the same stone from different vendors. The price is around $3000 retail, but it could be a few hundred more from vendors who offer more services. Regular retail jewelers typically overcharge as opposed to an online jeweler/vendor who has a greater volume of sales. I think $2500 is a very good price and you should take that if someone offers it. Even $2000 would not be unreasonable.

Just please come back here and let us direct you to some sources of better priced diamonds before you buy your new stone!

Just make sure that your jeweler is not inflating the price of the stone you are going to purchase. It's not an uncommon scenario.

Can you take it to an independent appraiser that is a gemologist? I did that and he explained what the cost would be for private party and what it would be for insurance purposes. Good luck!

I agree with DS...If your stone came into our diamond buying venue we would probably offer you $2,000-$2500. So if you can trade it in and get something for $3500 I would or sell outright for anything over $2500.

Sorry
