It stands for Hearts and Arrows and it's a type of cut. That's all I know. I guess it's a matter of taste if you prefer it or not. I think it's for round diamonds.
ok hearts and arrows ive heard
i think if you get a really good cut, you can see the hearts and arrows
if i flip my diamond over, i can see the hearts, and the top shows arrows
The explanation of the Hearts & Arrows are explained here:

Another newbie here. Hello all! H&A stones seem to carry a premium. Am I right in thinking that the hearts and arrows pattern can only be seen from the bottom of the stone? Therefore, once it's set only the wearer (and the buyer
) know. Does a H&A pattern mean a more brilliant, sparkly diamond or is it possible to find just as sparkly a diamond, if not better, without the H&A pattern?
-You can often find a H&A stone online for a cheaper price than you can find in the Maul stores.
-The heart pattern gets hidden once its set in the prongs. You can however see the arrows in your diamond anytime.
-Just cause its H&A **doesnt** autmatically make it a more superior stone. Its really up to the eyes of the beholder.
Yes, you can find a more sparkly, bright diamond without the H&A pattern.
For me, I wanted the H&A pattern. I LOVE those arrows!
