What is a bruise?

This GIA report shows two bruises as the first inclusions listed on this diamond they graded VS2.

What causes a bruise?
Is it naturally-occurring, or damage caused by humans?
What does a bruise look like?
Is it internal, external or both?

Can a VS2 grade-setting bruise spread, or be a durability concern?

Hi Kenny,

A bruise is a group of small feathers surrounding a single point. They are also called percussion marks (this sometimes made it easier for people to understand). They are certainly damage, being caused by a blow. Whether it happened in the ground or afterwards is very hard to tell, but usually they are man made. They are often quite bright and in an emerald cut they probably stand out given the clarity grade.

I didn't mean to own it. Just... give it a holiday in Nor Cal for a couple weeks. Maybe treat it to some new clothes (that might fit my finger perfectly) in case it wants to dress up and go out with me?
