What have you done with your original e-ring after upgrading?

DH upgraded my e-ring 2 years ago for our 15th anniversary. I'm just now getting around to deciding what to do with my original stone and could use suggestions! Without digging out my paperwork, i would guess the center stone is around a .4ct marquise?

I don't wear simple/delicate neclaces so i have ruled out a necklace/pendant. I considered resetting into a RHR and have recently considered a bracelet. I wear a yellow and white gold X and heart bracelet 24x7 that DH gifted me for an anniversary and thought a very simple yellow gold chain with the stone bezeled would look really pretty with it. (i'd probably have a band made with the round diamonds later on down the road) OR a bar bracelet with the marquise and possibly the 10 round stones in the bar. i'd probably rarely take it off.

thoughts? Ideas? What have you done with your original stone?

I think a bezeled chain bracelet would be an excellent choice especially for a marquise! I can't think of anything better! Mine sits in my jewelry box. It's not cut to the level I am used to now and it's not a good recut candidate so I basically keep it for sentimental reasons.

A bracelet is a great idea!

Mine was much smaller set than yours but still had all the sentiment attached to it. I wore it as a pendant for awhile but eventually, after finding PS, had all the stones set into a band. The center of the wedding set is a .33ct.

My wedding set is the bottom part of the pendant and my 10 year anniversary pendant is the top .5ct stone. I kept losing the marquise ones out of the original setting because of having only two prongs.

The band done by DKJ with the stones from my wedding set. I drew the pattern up and he executed it beautifully though he had to add a marquise stone.

The 10 year anniversary .5ct stone I had put into another pendant setting with pink diamonds by DKJ.

I traded the diamond in for a larger stone and changed the setting... I had a buyer ready to purchase, but Grace screwed that up. It's been almost 2 years, and I'm STILL trying to sell it - BOO!! :(

(sorry, I'm still salty about it)

First ering:

...and my setting sans stone (it's sad and wants to go home with someone). ;-)

Mine is sitting in a jewelry box in the third setting I had done about 12 years ago. I also still have the original setting and a second one I did after 15 years or so. So I guess I’m a jewelry packrat :eek2: I will always keep my original e-ring for sentimental reasons. My daughters aren’t interested in my jewelry, so I’ve been thinking about finding a match for my original diamond and having diamond earrings made. My original diamond was .5ct F SI1, and purchased before the days of GIA.

I'm not sentimental about rings (I've had 4 e-rings). I usually sell the ring, but this last time WF took my ring and gave me a good credit towards my upgrade.

With your marquise, I'd probably have a halo made for it and wear it on my right hand

I am sentimental and just keep all of my e-ring stones (all of my jewelry for that matter).
The .75 E-SI2 marquis is now in a pendant (think early 80s before many of you were born, lol)
The 1.50 F-VS1 marquise is in a RHR with 24 Princess cuts (not worn anymore).
The 3.01 F-SI1 pear is still in its setting (my e-ring for 21 years)
The 2.21 F-SI1 CBI diamond is currently being reset into a 3-stone ring with two more F VS1&2 CBI diamonds. This was a Cut to Order diamond that I bought in 2014.
The 2.79 F-VS1 CBI diamond is my current e-ring.
You might say that I upgraded to smaller stones but I really enjoy seeing the light show that my CBI diamonds provide.

You said that you don't like delicate pendants, but have you considered one with a halo?

thanks @diamondseeker2006 ! I think it's the most practical, i'd wear it ALL the time. I initially thought of a bezel pendant but just not my style.

@redwood66 your resets are all beautiful  but that band is absolutely perfect!!!

@msop04 your original setting is stunning, you wouldn't want to put a CS in it? And so different from your current, dreamy solitaire (#FingerRealEstateGoals), was it a shock to go from such an ornate setting to a solitaire?

@kmarla if it was almost any other shape i'd find a matching stone and have some earrings made. I wouldn't mind wearing it ocassionally but the baugettes are in danger of being cracked or falling out, After being banged around for 15 years, they are not set very well. Every jeweler i've brought it to to have it cleaned the last few years i wore it would caution me that i was in danger of losing a baugette.

@cflutist i just don't wear much as far as simple jewelry. I'm more of a large, statement necklace kind of gal for which i stick to costume jewelry. I have a bezel solitaire necklace that i wear maybe once a year. :???:

If your a bracelet person I would go that route! I wear bracelets and always have them on. I would say they are my most worn pieces. I like the idea of a bar bracelet. Maybe set east west with additional diamonds to fill in the bar space. Something beautiful and so easy to wear!

I would do a simple bezel for a right hand ring. East/West

That setting is GORGEOUS! Is it still for sale?

msop04, I cannot believe that beautiful setting did not sell! I remember it and it totally stands out. GL!

Is it listed somewhere?

Folks a reminder that no sales talk is allowed outside of Preloved.

Hi farrahlyn,
You're getting so many suggestions here - I'm excited to see which direction you go.

Since you do wear bracelets, a milgrain bezel bracelet could be a nice idea.

Whatever you decide come back and show us the final product please!

I'll definitely update this thread with the final product. i do think i will go with a bracelet, just undecided if i'll do a bezel bracelet or bar. i worry that the stone will flip around a lot and you'll mostly just see the chain and not the bezel. i'll probably go and try on some bracelets at my jewelers in the coming weeks to see what i'll prefer.

I put a colored stone in the band and proceeded to lose the .33 ct. marquise diamond. I wanted to set it into a Beverley K. butterfly pendant, but I can't find that diamond anywhere. It's gotta be here sonewhere...

With the right settings and a good fit, flipping should not be a problem, Best wishes.
