Can engagement rings be returned? just out of curiosity...

It depends on where you bought it from I guess.

IMHO, I would hope that the man asking the question would be 99.9% sure of the answer before he asked. The proposal shouldn''t be the first time the topic of marriage is brought up.

it prob depends. others can give a better informed answer on that than i can

BUT

before you go through all of the trouble picking one and spending your hard earned money, you might want to sit down with your significant other and start talking about long term goals and what you both see in the future. if the talks ( you should have more than one! ) are fruitful and you are both headed in the same direction and want to plan your future together then you prob won''t have to worry about returning the ring :)!

good luck and keep the lines of communication open! if they are open you will know her answer

Usually, yes, they can be returned. Ask before you buy about the return period and any "buy back" policy they might have.

However, I agree that you should both agree to marriage. I do not really buy into the "guy asks girl to marry him" thing, I much prefer the "couple decides to spend life together" thing. Honestly, as a woman, I don''t think it''s romantic to be surprised out of the blue with a life-altering decision and a multiple-thousand dollar piece of jewelry not of your choosing which you''ll be obligated to wear for life. I hear more horror stories of women who didn''t like the proposal or didn''t like the ring than I hear positive stories. I think the "romance" of the surprise engagement is far, far overblown. Then again, this is why I did a justice of the peace wedding, because I found the whole wedding planning and gender-based role thing to be deeply divisive, my now-DH and I make decisions jointly, and I hated how everyone in the whole process assumed that I had a particular role to play because I was the girl. We were marrying each other, it was not my "special princess day" and I was not "lucky he asked."

That said, I''m not your gf. Find out from her if she sees the two of you together long-term, if she''s interested in getting married, if she thinks this is the right time of her life to be thinking about marriage. Ask her if she has in mind any particular type of proposal, if she would want to be surprised or if she would want to be involved in picking out the ring. It would be a big mistake to go into a proposal blind, without any idea if she is thinking about marrying you at all.

Dude, seriously, dont buy a ring and ask a woman to marry you unless you already know she''ll say yes...Trust me...If you haven''t talked seriously about marriage and agreed that you both want to spend the rest of your lives together then you''re not ready to go ring shopping...IMO.

Phew....

Depends on the policy from where the person purchased the ring from. Some have a 30 day return policy, others have a 10 day policy. I would recommend to all the men out there to propose within the return policy so they aren''t stuck doing a sell-back for less or trying to sell it on their own. I also wouldn''t recommend purchasing from a place that doesn''t have *any* return policy, it''s not the mark of a good vendor!
