What foods do you throw out?

Uhhh....probably anything in the fridge after a few days old. Oh wait a minute! Just slipped my mind that I have a 95 lb Bullmastiff. I should Never through food out. I have a mammal disposal!!!!LOL

We refer to the freezer as the "elephant graveyard." Stuff goes in but never comes back out!
Stephanie Lynn with you there on the bananas. There is always at least one overripe banana on the counter wrapped.

Veggies go bad if I forget about them for a week. If I catch them in time before they go slimey then I throw them in my ramen noodles.

Fruits unfortunately too often... although I do freeze them as much as possible.

Moldy bread and bad milk. As no one is a milk drinker here and I only use milk for cooking and baking, we do end up throwing out half a carton of milk sometimes. Happens for cream too but we only buy small packs of those.

I almost never throw away meat because it’s expensive, so what I don’t cook immediately goes straight into the freezer.
@peacechick, I was pouring spoiled milk out, too. Then I bought some dry milk. It is really convenient. You can make a small amount of milk, just for a recipe.
You can also think about keeping canned milk on hand. It is good in recipes, too.

A friend of mine who lives by herself buys small shelf-stable packets of milk. They can be stored for a while and are small enough to be used up before going bad.

I have this gene increasing resistance to bugs causing food poisoning, plus very high stomach acidity. I must have felt it so I was rather uncaring about food quality.

But recently I was told that my blood sugar was at pre-diabetic level, so everything containing carbs (tons of chocolate, that is) was thrown out. I think I have enough willpower to count calories and limit food intake, but chocolate was an addiction.

We have 5 dogs, (left over meats etc) 2 x guinea pigs (fruit and veggies), chickens (scraps) and a composting worm farm (vegetables decomposing). We throw dairy and leftovers with onions and things toxic to other animals in the trash, everything else goes to the animals we own. Sometimes we cook more pasta or rice or veggies extra specifically for them.

I bought 2 bags of spring mix and had 1 for dinner last night. The other will likely be thrown out unopened in a couple of days :(

This weekend, I thawed a couple thick steaks in the microwave, and the edges turned gray and got semi-cooked, so I cut the edges off, and chopped it up and mixed it in with dog food for my puppy, he licked his bowl clean, and I didn't feel bad about "wasting" good steak because it was going to a good cause :)

I also found out that my puppy loves watermelon and cantaloupe (both are fruits that are good for dogs) so now, any fruit my teens don't eat can be shared between me and my pup!
