Hi there,
It was suggested I ask this in another thread here : https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-with-setting-for-1-43-antique-cushion-in-yellow-gold.187897/ to see what info you may be able to help me on setting elements I am considering...
I am looking at this SS style http://www.singlestone.com/index.php?page=collections&catID=21&startRow=29 with pear sided but with a delicate milgrained bezel like this:https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/2-7c-cushion-in-rose-gold-milgrain-bezel-setting-from-erd.176615/
Question I have is that I want my ACC to glow he way t does in a stone holder and am wondering how a bezel affects color or light performance?

Any tips from experts appreciated.

What do you mean by "glow"? In any case the answer to your questions will depend on the stone, the type of setting, and your vision/colour perception...

If the stone leaks (allows a significant amount of light to escape out the sides/bottom) then you're more likely to note effects from the metal colour - a stone that lets significant amounts of light out the sides/bottom also lets significant amounts of light that's reflected off the yellow metal back in via those same paths. So the effects of setting metal colour are likely more pronounced in a non-precision-cut antique than a modern MRB, say. Mike at RDG usually plates the insides of prongs when using non-white metals on white stones to avoid colour bleed.

If you're talking about a large bezel that encloses a lot of the pavilion, and that has a steep rise over the edge of the crown, your odds of noting some effect are again higher than if you're looking at a more delicate bezel. Here's a thread with a good discussion on exactly what you're asking - effects of bezels on light return: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/does-a-bezel-setting-change-and-or-decrease-light-return.146618/

It's also been my personal experience that the setting colour has a definite effect on the overall "look" of the piece from afar. When you're looking at it close-up it's easy to delineate stone and setting but from further away they all sort-of blend together and you see a blurry composite - which, if you have an elaborate yg setting that visibly surrounds the stone, is going to be "warmer" overall. I love a warmer look (vs. "icy")! This has nothing to do with performance though, so I guess we're back to what exactly you mean when you say "glow".

Yssie - that was a comprehensive thread on my question!
Thank you!
I guess what I mean by glow is the glow of my antique cushion as the sun sets. She is an H white, but there is a facety, rainbow, glow that looks like dew if that makes any sense?! I want that to be reflected in the setting and do not want to lose it. Now after reading all that on the thread above....I am thinking that since it is an antique it may leak? But when I look at it all I see is white chunky facets...so I am not sure it has leakage?
I have been wrapping it in foil and napkins and putting it on my yellow gold earrings to see what i see...there is a change but not sure if it leaks...
I am thinking leaving it open is probably best after reading that thread.....

Re: What does a yellow gold bezel do to a stones apparent co

Sorry that one pic didn't post well. Under vintage inspired on SS's website there is one on page 5 and two on page 8 that are yellow gold and could show off your stone beautifully.
I read that link too (Thank you Yssie and Trade, you are so knowledgable and helpful). I had/have the same questions and I am bezeling my stone. It should be done in a few weeks. It's a later OEC type without a super tall crown. Maybe send the specs to them and ask about what would suit it? Or, look at stones similar to yours that they have set on their website to give you ideas. Good luck!

Re: What does a yellow gold bezel do to a stones apparent co

I have a stone set in a yellow bezel and IMO it darkens the stone color and sparkle. Want to remove it someday...it is a closed setting (on the bottom) so no light can get through. Not loving it...a colleague also just removed hers from a yellow gold bezel for same reason.
