This is my first post, but I''ve really enjoyed all your diamond expertise. I don''t know all the proper "lingo" but would like to request your help.

I am currently looking at a marquise stone-1.17ct, E color, I1. $4,800.00.

The diamond looks very "white" but is an I1 and has an obvious-to-the-naked-eye blemish on the bottom side. I don''t think it would be seen when set, but I am worried about whether or not it would crack or break.

This price seems steep for an I1. I would appreciate your opinions...thank you

I don't think the price is good at all.

Here is one:

Thanks, I thought it was high

I wish I could get a couple more opinions.

I don't know A THING about marquise cuts... so sorry!

But just one small observation... perhaps you could consider going down a little lower on color and up a little on clarity, perhaps to an SI 2 or even 1? (Regarding color -- a well-cut stone will "mask" color very nicely, and face-up very white. Lots of people here are thrilled with their G's, H's, I's and even J's)

I'm just not sure about that I-1, personally. I'm thinking that if that inclusion can be seen afterall once the stone is set... well, (JMHO) it could be quite a bummer. And believe me, we girls spend an AWFUL LOT OF TIME scrutinizing our rings!

Pricing on that stone seems to be more in line with SI 1 quality. I would suggest maybe dropping the color grade by one or two shades in order to get a cleaner stone. Fnacy shapes can be tricky and tend to display color & clarity characteristics much more easily than round brilliants.

I would think that they are charging the premium for the color....problem the reason it looks so white! I would have serious reservations with a visible inclusion- especially if it only 'might' be covered when set.

Here is another example of something in that price range and size, but with good balance of color aand clarity...from a very reputable dealer (at least from a lot of P'Scopers!)
