What do you think of this oval's faceting?

Hi everyone, I found this oval and it seems to have faceting that looks different from most other ovals (there doesn't seem to be one focal point in the middle where all the facets converge, if that makes sense): https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/2.63-carat-f-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-2467033

I actually find it rather pretty, but I was just wondering if this is something that I should be avoiding.

Also, I welcome any better suggestions! I'm looking for something from 2.6-3, eye-clean down to SI2 is fine, color down to an I, around $30k. Fluoro would be a plus since I have a thing for it.

Thanks!

It's a 4 main oval instead of a 6 or 8 main so it does have a different look to it. I personally think it's a stunning stone with nice crisp faceting throughout, but there are others who prefer the look of stones with 6 or 8 mains better.

This is a 4-main (look at the faceting pattern on the lab report). If decently cut it usually results in more pin-flashes and less
bigger flashes. From what I have noticed they usually cut shallow ovals with 4 mains but this one is not shallow.

I prefer a 6 main or 8 main where all facets converge in the middle but that's my preference. You get some larger flashes
(that can be seen from further away) and then also some small pin-flashes that can be seen up close. The stone you posted
will be mostly pin flashes (and more of them then a stone with some larger flashes).

The stone you posted seems to have pretty good light return. A lot of 4-mains are not that good...probably due to
the shallower depth (and faceting pattern).

I'll look around for some nice ovals in your specs.

Edit..I see ac117 just posted...so ditto what she said!

Edit...didnt find much at JA...found this one at Enchanted Diamonds that looks like it could be nice.

Thank you, tyty and ac117!

I had no idea there were 4/6/8 mains. So helpful.

Tyty, that one you linked looks beautiful! Does Enchanted Diamonds provide more pics/ASETs upon request? Is a depth of 63.4 ok? I I don't want it to be too deep to impact face-up size.

Thanks again!!

I know in the past ED has provide aset images (not sure about more pictures though). The only way of really knowing is
to call/text them.

Remember...Aset images for ovals are not pretty...

As far as depth goes, you can not buy fancy cut stones like ovals by the numbers. A depth of 63.4% should be fine. Pay attention to
the girdle also...Slightly thick to Extremely thick may be hiding carat weight and reducing the face up size. There are no cut and
dry rules to follow with fancy cut stones because it really is a combination of things that can make one oval good or bad.

Here is some advice I just gave in another thread on ovals...

General advice about ovals

- compare length/width instead of carat weight
- decide if you like pin-flashes (small flashes, but more) vs some larger flashes but less (these are the ones that would get seen from
further away while pin-flashes are seen more up-close. This would dictate the faceting pattern you should look for (see below)
- minimize black bow-tie
- look for nice feathering from the center of the stone out towards the ends (talking about faceting pattern here)
- as you tilt the stone look for more facets coming into focus (this is with larger faceting patterns, not pin-flashes)
- no shoulders on the stone...nice oval outline
- watch out for really thick girdles wasting carat weight

Here are examples of the different faceting patterns...just examples, not necessarily recommendations.
Pin-flash faceting pattern...4-main pavilion faceting pattern...look at the stone outline (bottom) on the GIA lab report

Bigger flashes along with small flashes
6-main (nice stone)

8-main - nbtice how when the stone tilts you have more facets come into focus towards the long ends (this is good)

Black bow-tie example(dont want)

You want to see crisp/clear/well delineated facets (for not pin-flash stones)... this is an example of a stone that is just mushy
(very mushy)...no facets in focus...this kind of stone will not return light well and will have low fire/brilliance
