Hi,

Would love to hear your thoughts on this oval? I am really thinking of buying it. I like the fact that its cushion like. But as you might know, I am not the smartest person when it comes to buying diamonds. I plan on having it set with a halo, possibly bezel set. I realize it's not very oval-ish, but for some reason I still like it.

That is indeed an interestingly-shaped oval. I like the shape, but there's a lot of light leakage on both sides seen on the ASET. It's also an I1 clarity, though it's not totally clear where the inclusion is in pictures.

I suppose the price is decent if size is your greatest priority, but I'd suggest a better-cut stone.

To be very honest, I don't like that oval at all. The ASET is very telling and there is leakage all over (and not equally distributed). Also, it's an I1. I'd look elsewhere. Hopefully the oval experts will chime in and find you a great one. :))

Looks cloudy

Not a fan of that GOG oval for the reasons already stated by previous posters.

As alternatives, here are a couple of JA ovals I bookmarked because I think they look pretty - they may be worth following up on... (and don't forget JA offers a discount to PS members of 1%-5% depending on the diamond).

Ave you considered eBay? With enough time and effort you can get something nice with that price

Looks like an ugly stone.

I like this one from ebay.

What's your budget for the stone itself???

I would like to stay under $3,000 or as low as possible. The one from e-bay I posted I really like the shape of it.

Yeah I know what you mean. So you're looking for rovals

Yes. I have realized that ovals are my favorite. I'm really trying not to look right now, only because I told my hubby I would take a break from diamonds, but it's sooo hard.

I think the photo of this diamond looks better than the one at the beginning of this thread but I noticed this eBay poster says the stone has a GIA appraisal but not an actual GIA lab report. How do you feel about that? Your comfort level is a key consideration too.

I feel I want the best dang diamond I can get since I've had a bad experience with what I thought was a good diamond. So I will continue to look (and make sure its what I want) I have also been reading up on my diamond information, so between all of the nice experienced people on this site and the vendors that seem to be trustworthy, I think I will eventually find the right stone and setting.

The concern I have with an oval stone is if I for sure want it bezel set, how small of a carat size can I go, considering my ring size is a 9.5. I don't feel like I want a huge ring, but I also don't want a bezel to take away from it.

If you put it in that ritani setting, as the bezel is so freaking waffer thin, I think a 0.75 oval would look fine. My only concern is if you'd be happy after having such larger diamonds to go down.

Also, let me ask if you've ever looked at marquise......

Reason I ask, they face up huge, cheap I'd you work to find one on eBay, and would look super cool e/w in a bezel on your finger.....

Just something to consider.

Have you seen this.

Yes. LOVE IT!!! Do you remember the designer?

I'm not a marquise person. I like them, but not on me. I think I would be fine with a small size diamond becuase of the halo adding size and the rings I recently tried on that where about .75 carat with halos seemed comfortable and felt like a ring I could wear without having to worry about it.
I also saw this ring, think it would be great with an oval.

I will say a marquise is easy to hate but if you haven't seen one on your name I think it might be worth popping into a store, just to see how different a big one looks compared to the tiny sliver in an ornate gold bandike everyone's aunt used to have.

I'll stick to ovals, I don't need to be more confused. But I do like cushions. :naughty:

OK then, just think knowledge is going to be your best friend. That way this ring will be your last. :wavey:

I don't know the designer. But like I've said ritani can make a beautiful one, and ERD could probably do it easily for under 2k or so as well.

Thanks for the tips. :wavey: I for sure hope this will be my last ring, that's why I'm in no hurry. Even though I just want it now so I can have something to wear. What metal is your diamond ring? I keep thinking I will just go with 14K even though I would love platinum.

All of my rings have been 14k, 2 unplated but my marquise is plated, to my displeasure lol.
