What do you think of this Mahenge Garnet?

Sorry for the late reply.

That's because both are considered Malaia Garnets and Malaia Garnets always have different properties from other Garnets and many times each other.

I have this one on the way from JTV. It was under $400 so I'm not expecting miracles but I'm wondering how it will compare to yours, color-wise.

This article is about fluorescence but it also explains why better cuts look bad in direct sunlight:

Fluorescence

As blue is the complimentary colour to yellow, the most common colour in diamonds, blue fluorescence can make yellow diamonds look white or colourless.

It seems every year there is a new hot stone coming out of East Africa. This year it was these "Rose Garnets" or "New Tanga Garnet". They are calling them New Tanga, as there already was a different garnet coming from Tanga called Tanga Garnet.
In Tucson the price of the rough was all over the place, and seemed to be a function of when during the find the rough was purchased. In the beginning the prices were high, then the went down, then back up again. I was seeing similar material from different dealer with some price over 2 times what some others had. Also the lighter tone material was selling for higher prices than the somewhat darker tone. I ended up buying a pretty good amount of the material, so hopefully it will become popular.

General rant here... does anyone receive their USPS packages by the delivery date anymore? Even just 2 years ago, it was unusual for a package to not arrive on time. Now it's unusual if it does arrive on time. My mint garnet was to arrive today via priority from IN. As of last night, it was in NJ... I was like, mayyybe. As of this morning, it went in the opposite direction and is in PA. I can't remember the last time I received a USPS package by the delivery date (unless it was coming from a neighboring state). I don't know why they even bother anymore with those ETAs. Anyone waiting on their tangas and experiencing similar delays? End rant!

I feel you. Mine always, always start with one delivery date and it always adjusts later. One time I was mailing a plant to a friend in NJ, from FL. I watched it hit a NJ post office and then come back down the East Coast to MD, before it was finally delivered late, with a dead plant inside.

I’m trying to look into the garnet thing and need help!

Basically I’ve been looking on IG and seeing some amazing looking gems (like as good as Chansey) but is it all an illusion. Will they stay looking like Chansey? I am looking for a cheap and cheerful stone that looks like Chansey that I can make into a pendant.

Vendors are not very forthcoming about photos and colours.

I am waiting on my Tanga from Jeff to be cut. I will post once I receive it. I feel I have seen some gorgeous Tangas on IG. I will post what I see. I haven't been in the groove of looking for a few weeks.

This one looks pretty spectacular. I love the cut. You'd have to ask for more videos in different lighting conditions.

It is so pretty but I’m guessing more purple under normal lights. I can’t wait to see yours though!

I know what you mean by being not in the groove. I am the same. Kinda want to break out of Ban Island (I am so on there after Chansey) but I can’t seem to get motivated enough to start looking for stuff.

I'm going to do something I normally won't do.

Word of warning about this vendor(s). They are actually three brothers from Pakistan living in Bangkok and while they do have some very nice stones, I had western dealer friends tell me they have sent as many stones back as they have kept. While these brothers will honor returns their videos often surpass their stones in real life and their customer service once you send back stones is poor to say the least.

Just a friendly warning to the wise.
