No gems should be assessed in direct sunlight.
The better the cut the worse they look.
That's surprising!

Thanks!! Holding out for my next, and likely last, Mahenge garnet for one that shifts just between pink and peachy pink. Hopefully this is not a unicorn! Other than their place of origin, I am not sure how to differentiate between Mahenge and Malaya.
Your Mahenge garnet is gorgeous!
I have this one on the way from JTV. It was under $400 so I'm not expecting miracles but I'm wondering how it will compare to yours, color-wise.
Will post it when I get it.

Very true, Garry.
It's very pretty and typical of garnets. They are moody little mothers! I've found that even the most precision cut ones just don't like certain lighting. Here are a couple of mine for reference.
This one was cut by Jeff White and is a "rose" garnet, whatever that means. He found the material at Tucson. First photo is outside, sun. It matches the pink sapphires in my ring, as you can see:

@ShinyPink --did the rough for your "rose garnet" from Jeff look like the rough he just posted in the newsletter?
If it is snap it up! He said he got some in Tucson

I did it. And I went big so I did not have to go home. Ok, now I am on a buying ban for awhile. I mean, unless the perfect light pink Mahenge shows itself...
Show me, show me! I don't get the newsletter. lol I wanna seeeee!!![]()
Your wish is my command! Look at this rough! Posting screen shots too in case link at bottom does not work for you.

You need not ask. Don't make me say it.![]()
Now I'm dying to know the shape!!
That I can say. Square cushion.
It seems every year there is a new hot stone coming out of East Africa. This year it was these "Rose Garnets" or "New Tanga Garnet". They are calling them New Tanga, as there already was a different garnet coming from Tanga called Tanga Garnet.
In Tucson the price of the rough was all over the place, and seemed to be a function of when during the find the rough was purchased. In the beginning the prices were high, then the went down, then back up again. I was seeing similar material from different dealer with some price over 2 times what some others had. Also the lighter tone material was selling for higher prices than the somewhat darker tone. I ended up buying a pretty good amount of the material, so hopefully it will become popular.
General rant here... does anyone receive their USPS packages by the delivery date anymore? Even just 2 years ago, it was unusual for a package to not arrive on time. Now it's unusual if it does arrive on time. My mint garnet was to arrive today via priority from IN. As of last night, it was in NJ... I was like, mayyybe. As of this morning, it went in the opposite direction and is in PA. I can't remember the last time I received a USPS package by the delivery date (unless it was coming from a neighboring state). I don't know why they even bother anymore with those ETAs. Anyone waiting on their tangas and experiencing similar delays? End rant!
@Odyssey44 I don't know how I missed your tag - sorry! The material Jeff posted is the same as mine. I love the mine!!! Here is a photo of the rough:
