Maybe, just maybe.... let her pick the setting (or at least say yes/no) instead of rejecting one ready-made?

$50 for a temp, doesn''t sound nearly as bad to waste.

On the other hand, you would have some control over how the work on a custom setting progresses (see wax model, for example). Then, modifications are always feasible (probably not free though, but no fortune either). It happened around here before...(LINK a pretty extremen example, imo.)

Hm. I agree with Valeria then. Can''t you do a temporary setting? Then maybe show her a picture of the ring you want made after your propose? Just to make sure she likes it...
