What do you think of this ASET of an OEC?

Hi, the picture itself is not the best but can anyone give me an opinion?

I think it looks really good but possibly out of round. What are the diameter measurements?

It's fine and I think a bit of wonk or out of round is what makes a genuine, unique OEC, in this case I wouldn't be freaking about that.

I have a feeling the stone is just tilted a little in the image. It has a gorgeous facet pattern.

ASET looks good to me.

Slightly out of round, but that doesnt bother me in an OEC.
What are the mm measurements....

Thanks. It is 7.19 -7.29mm diameter. I like the facet pattern too.

I'm new to ASET images. It looks like there is a fair amount of red. Generally a paler picture than you would often see on the internet with clear spots under the table. I wasn't sure if this was just the photograph rather than the ASET image itself.

Those clear dots you referring to around the table are called the Kozibe effect. it is the effect given from the open culet and the way the diamonds were cut.

As you may know, culet is at the bottom of the diamond. The culet usually comes to a sharp point, especially in modern round brilliants (MRB). The GIA report would say that the culet is small or negligible. in some diamonds, typically older cut diamonds like the OEC, the culets were cut so that there is a flatter point vs a sharp point. this, along with the way that the rest of how the diamond is cut will give you those white dots you see around the table of the diamond. To me, that is one of many reasons why i like the older cuts....there is also the higher crowns and smaller tables, lower/ warmer (more romantic in my opinion) colours like JKLMNOPRST (cos most of the higher colours have been recut to MRB), .... But that is just me.

in real life, those white dots (reflected light areas) are visible. your stone is 2x the size of my OEC. I can see the kozibe effect in mine with a loupe. i suspect that you will be able to see (with 20/20 vision) the kozibe effect without the aid of the loupe.

I'm okay with a little wonk in an OEC but I wouldn't want the culet off-center - have you seen other images or can you confirm with the vendor the culet is centered?

Not one of the experts but the flower pattern looks very nice. I think slightly wonky is part of the charm for OECs.

When I look at it, based on where the kozibe is seen and the center facets, I am relatively sure the stone is tilted slightly to the right and up a bit. That diameter is not a problem and doesn't indicate the stone is out of round. If you have other pictures, you could post them.

Thank you for all your input - this is great. Here is a picture of it in natural light. I should be able to get another ASET image up.

The vendor had suggested that the kozibe is not noticeable in person but that it is 'a trick' of the photos.

It was more the clear areas seen through the table itself that I was concerned about than the kozibe but good info about kozibe - thanks!

It's very pretty! I see what you mean about the pale areas under the table on the ASET though - I still think it's pretty good for a stone cut in an era when there was no such thing as an "ideal cut".

Okay, the stone is also tilted in those pics, but what a gorgeous stone! Looks clean clarity-wise and the color looks good, too. It honestly is one of the better OECs I have seen.

What kind of setting are you interested in? (or what kind is SHE interested in, if you are buying for someone else!)

(It is true that stones with smaller culets are less likely to show the kozibe effect in real viewing. That is definitely true of my own stone.)

It is a lovely stone.

I would not have any issues with it.

Note the last pic while it has some beautiful colourt, it is going to be the reflection of the camera person. She may be in a purple top or her surroundings are that colour. I guess what I am saying is that don't expect that siren to have the purple hue to it when u get it.

I suspect that it would be be pretty white with a slight hint of warmth. The still shots give me the impression that it will be a bit of a vanilla/cream colour which for me is just perfect for an older cut stone. Antique/Romantic coloring. But that is jUst me.

I saw that pic on LoveAffairDiamonds's IG account and I asked about the tint. She confirmed its a reflection from her shirt that day.

If I owned that rock, I'd wear pink shirts all the time!!

I saw this stone when she listed it and I too thought that is about as good as you get for an Old cut without getting a newly cut stone like an AVR or a Canera OEC. So I don't think you have anything to worry about, unless you hate something specifically about it.

Well, I've taken the plunge and gone for this stone from Erica at Love Affair Diamonds. Another positive review on this forum for her. She's been great so far. Thanks for all your opinions and advice on the stone.

Now I'm thinking of the best kind of setting for it.... What do you think (I'm not a jewellery designer)?

I'm thinking something open to allow a fair amount of light through plus I like seeing the whole stone. My other half has a fairly practical job and it needs to be something wearable on a daily basis. I'm hopefully sticking to something relatively antique-inspired as I think this is what she would want.

I do have a sketch I've done for an idea so far but would value your opinions on setting for this stone generally.

Gorgeous stone. Truly - it doesn't get better than that, slight wonk and all - she's a little charmer, that's for sure!

And I absolutely LOVE where you're going with this setting! The branch theme is beautifully done I do think you'll have to consult a jeweller regarding structural sturdiness, given how open the head currently is, but I have no doubt your design can be amended to fulfill that requirement if needed without losing any of the aesthetic

Actually, I sort of want to continue the branch idea further down the shank, vs the studded theme it morphs into quite quickly - will both sides of the ring be identical, or do you envision some asymmetry in the branch pattern? My own seven-stone is asymmetric on all four sides/shoulders and it's one of my favourite things about it
