So, besides the diamond appearance in terms of its size... it''s a nice diamond?

No, the depth and the large table mean that it will not reflect light back to you eye properly. It will leak light most likely. So this means that it will not look as good as it would if it had a better cut. Here is a video that will help. In all liklihood, your diamond will look similar to the one on the left. I would suggest you try to find a better cut diamond that will look more like the one on the right. The difference between the two diamonds if the proportions of thier cut -- the table and depth % and the crown and pavilion angles, among other things.

Mini-thread jack: That''s a great video, Dreamer. Is it in the helpful threads sticky? If not, it should be

I wonder if Jonathan would be willing to share the specs of the diamond on the left, just for educational purposes.
I added it. and I too would like to know the specs.

I spoke to one jewelery store owner who I was referred to by a friend who flat out told me he didn''t even look at the "numbers" on a GIA report when ordering stones - that he was only concerned with the size, color, and clarity. I still spoke with him at length about what I was looking for in a stone, but he wasn''t familiar with the term "hearts and arrows" or really any aspects of the diamond other than the size, color, and clarity. While I appreciated his time, I highly doubt I''ll be making a purchase through him.

Your father may be one of this type of jeweler - if you weren''t concerned with cut quality at all, a D VS1 is nice on paper. However, since you''re here on PS, you hopefully recognize that cut matters even more than the other specs of the diamond, and that those little numbers around the drawing of the diamond are important. Hopefully you haven''t finalized your purchase yet, but from the numbers it looks very unlikely that your diamond will appear lifeless (and smaller) when compared to a well cut stone of similar carat weight.
