I have been browsing around Pricescope for half year and have learnt a lot from you guys. Thanks. This is my first post

. I am currently looking for a diamond for my girlfriend's e-ring.
I am planning to buy a aournd 1 ct RB, probably VS2 or above. But I am not sure about the color. Is GIA H white enough for untrained eyes? the ring will be set in white gold. would a H stone be good with white gold? I don't want to have a yellow stone.

Give me opinions on H stone! Thanks a lot

In a well cut stone in the carat size, H should face up plenty white & can be set in white metal.

When you state VS2 & above, what do you mean? Often, clarity has the least affect on a diamond's visual appearance. CLarity is graded under 10x power

Yep a well cut H will be more than fine in platinum. I have a platinum set Regent H and it's very white. I was actually quoite surprised...don't know what I expected to see in terms of color. It doesn't even have a hint of warmth to it.

Hello! I have an H, SI-1 stone set in platinum and I love it. I wear it with a pave eternity channel set band with F-G color stones and it looks great. It's .97 carats and I saved a bunch of $$$ by going just under a carat and by going down a bit in color and clarity. Good luck to you.

Thats really smart buying

Well thanks! I lurked here a LOT before purchasing. My husband wanted to go to Tiffany's and get me a ring, but since he's a resident, money IS an object. I started doing research and got a beautiful ring while spending WAY less than he would have

H will be no problem at all. You will get better bang for your buck with a well made H color and still have a white diamond!

I own an H stone, too, and it's BEAUTIFUL. Very white, not a hint of color at all.

What they said.

Although mine is a G, I'd go H anyday (must be well cut tho) should I have the chance to do this again.

Even a J is white enough for me... but not for everybody!

ok someone needs to dissent here.

In YG H is oK for 90% of people.

Put a D and H side by side and only 1/2 the people can "see" the difference.

But those who can "feel" it.

D feels icy, I looks slightly tinted, but nice and H has a lot less color than I and 1/2 as much as J.

But DEF have an icy quality that our color acuity can not always "pick" from H.

Knowing this I can never have below F on Drena's hand.

This does not sound like "dissension" at all. If a memory of a dream is what tells apart D from H for any laymen, I guess the question of this thread is answered...

If you are not tired of this Garry, would it be worth mounting a D-E color in yellow gold (no white prongs, just a 22kt yellow gipsy setting)?

I would be careful with 22k for prongs. I have a bunch of 22k stuff, and it's pretty soft and bends easily. I'd want something stronger for the prongs....

I agree that some people are WAY more color-sensitive. One of the girls at work knew my stone was an H (her ex-husband is a jeweler).

I honestly do not like D stones - toooooo icy. Really. Perhaps in a smaller stone. But, not in the larger ones. I was shown a decent cut E - too stark for me. So, while I completely understand the rarity, etc, I think personal preference enters into the picture. I saw no reason to pay more for something that was not as important to me. I understand the snob appeal though.

That said, I do not like stones with lots of body color so that they appear yellow. Again, I have to dissent, I can not detect any yellow in my I color stone face up. Never in sunlight & only sometimes on the side in lower level lighting. Mine is in the vatche platinum setting w/ stronger color sides. Looks like it matches to me. I have to say, I viewed an I color w/o blue fluor & it did have a yellow tinge to it face up. Slight - but detectable. It was a GIA certed stone.

just my 2 cents.
