What do you swear by that works

I use vinegar too!

I use vinegar on the humidifier to break up the hard water stains. A good soak works!

I have used vinegar for swimmers ear once.

I use vinegar and water to mop the floors.

I use baking soda to clean the microwave oven; I put some baking soda and water and microwave and then wipe down the microwave.

I notice baking soda helps keep the smell out of our diaper pail.

I use toothpaste if I have a zit that needs to go away soon; the plain white toothpaste (cheapest) works the best.

Hi Skippy, thanks for all those helpful tips!

I just want to add a caveat to anyone who has eczema. Toothpaste applied to the face might aggravate the eczema so please be careful. If you have sensitive skin I would not recommend putting toothpaste on your face but if you have normal skin there should be no issue.

Isn't drinking water enough for getting rid of hiccups?

If I go outside when it is cold and suck in a big gulp of air and walk a briskly and come back inside, my hiccups often go away. Someone told me they take a tsp full of sugar and that makes theirs go away. I hardly ever have problems with getting them to go away with what I do so I haven't tried the sugar or water drinking.

Missy, I have oily skin but I read models use the toothpaste trick, it does dry you out so I can understand it irritating eczema.

So the other day DH had a canker in his mouth.  So I told him to put a dab of salt on it... yes I know it hurts like no other... and he said that just hurts and doesn''t work... For me I''ve always done it, and it always seem to heal faster than normal within 2-3 days (but you have to do put it on frequently).  told him not just swish salt water around... I mean really just dab salt straight on baby! I swear by it and I''m sticky to that remedy

So what do you swear by that works even if you think its only a mind thing?

Yep. Works like a charm. Although I take it a step further and add a bit of cayenne pepper too. Obviously if the thing is already full-tilt, neither salt nor cayenne is an option - WAAAY too painful, but if you start it early before it really opens up, it works great. But you're right, you have to apply often, and that is a problem in public, with a finger jammed in your mouth. ;))

I think it works (and I'm just guessing) by dessicating the area around the sore, making it more difficult for the process to progress. Just a surmise...but work, it DOES. I'll back you up on that one!

I found a great sore throat remedy a couple weeks ago:
Slice up a grapefruit into bite-sized pieces, put it in a bowl with a spoonful of Fage, and drizzle with honey to sweeten. Delicious, and totally remedied my very sore throat.

Shampoo for removing tough stains.

Oil in the water when boiling pasta so it doesn''t stick (no one I know does this but me, which surprised me).
I have always done this, it works great.

The flipside of this... is that using oil/butter prevents sauce from adhering to the noodle. I grew up in a house that used oil and I have since stopped. I want as much sauce adhesion as possible!

If you get permanent marker on a whiteboard, scribbling over it with a regular whiteboard marker and then wiping it with a paper towel will remove the permanent marks.

For pimples...

Apply and gently rub in a paste mixture of crushed aspirin, honey and a little water. Let it sit for 10 mins or as long as you can go without sneezing  You can try this once or twice a day assuming you have no allergies or sensitivities to any of the ingredients used - in which case do not try this. It will either bring the pimple to a head so you can pop it easily or reduce the swelling until it goes away.

When you have a tension headache, wrap a belt or scarf around your head, make sure that whatever you use covers the top of the two muscles in the back of your neck, your temples, and your forehead, and hold it as tightly as you can stand for ~10-15 minutes. You will be able to feel the headache melt away.
