What do you swear by that works

Eating tons of fresh fruits and veggies when I''m feeling under the weather is one of my favorite remedies. I started doing this a couple of years ago, and it makes a world of difference. I try to stay up on my fruits and veggies anyways, but I made a special effort if I''m coming down with something, and it really helps!

Shampoo for removing tough stains.

Oil in the water when boiling pasta so it doesn''t stick (no one I know does this but me, which surprised me).

That''s a must for me when boiling pasta...

I like it when my pasta sticks

My daughter likes it when I get distracted when cooking spagetti and forget to stir it. She loves the big lumps of spagetti stuck together. Sometimes I pretend I forgot to stir but don''t stir on purpose because it makes her so happy to get the lumps. Those little things in life are so cool :)

Two tablespoons of flax seed oil when I''m feeling tense or anxious. Calms me down in about 1/2 hour, max (I think it''s the tryptophan.) I swallow it fast because it''s kind of gross.

I swear that there are so many things you can do with white vinegar:

I use vinegar to freshen the bad clothing smells and get rid of perspiration stains from clothes. I pour some on the underarm area of garments (1 part vinegar to 4 parts water) soak, then rinse. I pour a cup in during rinse cycle when washing towels, blankets, and sweaters. It also keeps my washing machine clean and keeps lint from sticking to clothes.

I use vinegar to unclog my coffee maker, iron, and clean the dishwasher and my teapot.

I use vinegar and water in spray bottle to clean bathroom fixtures. I also use it to remove soap scum & calcium deposits from shower tiles, shower door, & chrome. I also unclog my drains and shower heads using vinegar, baking soda, and boiling water.

When we painted our home I placed a bowl of vinegar in the room to get rid of the paint smell!

I clean my windows with undiluted vinegar in a spray bottle.

White vinegar will also make patent leather shine.

It cleans the hardwater stains around the kitchen sink.

White vinegar helps relieve itching from bug bites

Helps remove skunk odor from dog. (I know this firsthand!)

That''s all I can remember for now. But using vinegar has been a lot cheaper than buying other products that do the same job, plus I know that vinegar is much safer.

If you drop your cell phone in water- stick the phone and battery (remove battery from phone if possible) in a bag of rice for 24 hours.

My hubby dropped his expensive touch screen phone- and this worked for us.

Windex to remove a stuck ring on your finger. Nothing else works like a little window cleaner!!!

Bikini-Zone 100% prevents red bumps and/or itchiness after shaving in sensitive areas.

Well for hiccups drinking water upside down. It''s not an east task though. You bend forward as far as you can an sip some water from the opposite side of the glass you would normally drink from. Works every time.

For my allergies I get acupuncture and I''ve had great success with Chinese herbs too.
NOTHING works for me when it comes to hiccups except one thing. When I was younger, my dad used to come out of nowhere and surprise the heck out of me!!!!!!! Always worked like a charm.

Not a medical remedy but I use Resolve carpet cleaner as a spot remover on clothes. It works much better than Spray and Wash, Shout, and the others.

I spray it on a spot and let it set for a minute before I wash the clothes as usual. Works great!
I use Spray and Wash w/ Resolve. It eliminates the need for scrubbing for the most part.

So the other day DH had a canker in his mouth. So I told him to put a dab of salt on it... yes I know it hurts like no other... and he said that just hurts and doesn''t work... For me I''ve always done it, and it always seem to heal faster than normal within 2-3 days (but you have to do put it on frequently). told him not just swish salt water around... I mean really just dab salt straight on baby! I swear by it and I''m sticky to that remedy
9.gif
So what do you swear by that works even if you think its only a mind thing?
Have you tried rinsing with Listerine for the canker sore? Since the canker sore is due to bacteria in your mouth and Listerine kills bacteria, I have to assume it would help with the healing by reducing bacteria.

This made me remember something that works really well for hiccups:

Asking a really bizarre question. My friend used, "What colour is your underwear today?" on me and it jolted me out of thinking about anything but that, and the hiccups were gone. It has the same effect as scaring people - you get their mind off of the hiccups and they magically fade away.

Nail polish remover will remove a Sharpie mark from most surfaces. I haven't used this one in a while though
1.gif

Nail polish remover also works if you get hair dye on the skin of your forehead or ears.
I use nail polish remover for pretty much any stain.

How cute! I love the clumps. My SIL and I fight over them. Guess some of us never grow up.

The bourbon is essential. So says my BF, who skips the water, honey, and lemon juice.

I''ve always done the oil/butter in the water trick with pasta!

My Nana used to rub my little finger when I had the hiccups. It worked cos you focussed on the finger-rubbing and forgot all about the hiccups. Now I do the drinking water backwards trick. I think it''s the having to focus on breathing slowly and steadily that makes them go away.

For canker sores, a lot of people here recommend switching to one of the ''natural'' brand toothpastes - one that doesn''t have any sodium laurel sulphate in it.

OK here are my random ''tips'':

- Orange juice and Triple X mints for a sore throat. A horrible year suffering from tonsillitis and then a horrible Summer recovering from a horrible tonsillectomy made me an authority on that one.

- Always wear a slip under a smart skirt or dress. Works as well as Spanx for smoothing out lumps and bumps and is significantly more comfortable!

- Put TCP on anything that itches. You will stink, but you won''t itch!

my hiccup remedy I look like a fool. You drink water (beverage) and you plug your ears w/ your thumbs- plug your nose with your index fingers, and take your pinkys to hold the glass, and drink... simultaneously... WORKS every time!

I''ve tried this, but it doesn''t work for me.

I was at a dinner party last year and everyone was talking about this brand of soap...I can''t remember for the life of me what it''s called!! Anyway, apparently this soap has been around since before the depression (and thus used by almost everyone''s mother and grandmother) and is still sold in a simple wax paper package, and everyone swore by it as a cure for everything - stains, washing intimates, cuts, burns, bug bites... I found it fascinating! I still haven''t picked up that soap, though, even though it''s apparently sold in our local grocery store.

I have another one...My bf's grandmother taught me this, ginger tea for a soar throat, if you've caught a cold or have a fever...

I peel the fresh ginger, cut it in a few pieces and boil it in water, for about 30-40 mins, add some lemon and honey, hold my nose and drink it (the boiled water)...It has an "interesting" taste for sure, and it's very very VERY spicy...But it works like a charm...

After cutting onions, rub your wet hands on stainless steel (sink, faucet, silverware)...which will remove the onion smell. I think they even sell a "bar" of stainless steel similar to bar soap as an onion-smell-remover-gadget-thingy.

It removes fish smell aswell...

All you lovers of spaghetti clumps ... check out spaghetti pie. It will be like crack to you! All clumps, all the time.

I 2nd all the shout outs to white vinegar! Its the only thing that can save laundry that''s been accidently left in the washer too long.

My new fave tip is Lemi Shine to get hard water stains off of glassware. Love it!

To swallow pills if you have a gag reflex -- string a key around your neck & drop it down your back so the cold key hits you between your shoulder blades. Don''t ask me how that works -- but it does!

I recently read that toothpaste shines faucets but it was too messy to make it worth it ... LOL!
