So the other day DH had a canker in his mouth. So I told him to put a dab of salt on it... yes I know it hurts like no other... and he said that just hurts and doesn''t work... For me I''ve always done it, and it always seem to heal faster than normal within 2-3 days (but you have to do put it on frequently). told him not just swish salt water around... I mean really just dab salt straight on baby! I swear by it and I''m sticky to that remedy

So what do you swear by that works even if you think its only a mind thing?

Well for hiccups drinking water upside down. It''s not an east task though. You bend forward as far as you can an sip some water from the opposite side of the glass you would normally drink from. Works every time.

For my allergies I get acupuncture and I''ve had great success with Chinese herbs too.

Not a medical remedy but I use Resolve carpet cleaner as a spot remover on clothes. It works much better than Spray and Wash, Shout, and the others.

I spray it on a spot and let it set for a minute before I wash the clothes as usual. Works great!

Heehee. I love the drinking water upside down trick!

I''d say neti pots definitely help people with sinus issues - DH swears by it. For hiccups, I breathe DEEPLY and SLOWLY and usually by the third breath they are gone.

For food stains on clothes, I use pro-makeup wipes. Once I spilled coffee all over my ivory silk suit and a lady who is a makeup artist handed me her pro-wipes. They totally lifted the stain! So I always have them on me now. Even DH uses them for spills on his tie/shirts at the office. The ones from Alcone work great.

But the thing I know works... every time... is diamond therapy. LOL. It cures everything. Hiccups, stains...sinus issues. Diamond therapy. It works.

What a fun thread!

- I swear by rosemary oil for making body hair grow faster, I use it for my eyebrows so all of the hairs grow out at the same time/quicker, instead of having to wait 2-3 mos for my entire eyebrows to grow out (some hairs have been plucked for so long they barely grow out, but the oil helps them grow out). My eyebrows are fully grown out by 3 wks of using the oil, it makes changing the shape of my eyebrows *so* much easier.

- Whenever my sister has hiccups, I start saying "hiccup for me, c''mon hiccup! hiccup! hiccup! Just once, hiccup for me!" and it goes away...OR I scare the bejesus out of her, that also helps

.

- Dark tea makes my headache go away.

Shampoo for removing tough stains.

Oil in the water when boiling pasta so it doesn''t stick (no one I know does this but me, which surprised me).

That''s a must for me when boiling pasta...

If you want stronger nails use Sween 24 moisturizing skin protectant.Make sure it goes under your nails.I usualy put it on my hands and then scratch the cream so it goes under the nails. It really works !!! It will also keep the dirt out ( for gardeners) I use it before gardening and also at night.

I use a nasal rinse for allergies and sinuses. It really does help with congestion/runny nose/sneezing/sore throat/etc....

I''ll be coming back to this thread often whenever I am in the need for some remedy help

so keep on coming

If I have the hiccups, I eat a piece of bread slowly. (usually the reason I get hiccups in the first place is b/c I''m eating something really fast, made with bread..odd) And I do the same if I take a pill and it feels like it gets stuck in my throat-the bread pushes it down.

I''ve used the spice "Allum" (sp) for canker sores. I dampen a Q-Tip and dip it in Allum and hold it on the sore. Yeah, it burns like heck, but it works!

Nail polish remover will remove a Sharpie mark from most surfaces. I haven''t used this one in a while though

I also sleep better if I turn my alarm clock around and cover it up so I can''t see it. Lame, I know.

For hiccups, I have used this for years. It's never failed me. I was taught this trick by my Elizabeth who raised me.

So the person has hiccups.

You tell them look at me. I am going to give you a few commands, folllow along.

Then you chant ( I know you are all going what?? Trust me.. ) He cups she cups, 3 sips good for the Hecups ( yes spelling is intentional )
11.gif

They take 3 sips while you chant this again.

Then you say one final chant while they hold their breath for 10 seconds.....

It's worked on people that had them for days...
12.gif

I think it works mainly becuse of the concentration factor and the fact that no one has ever heard this before. It was a hoot in college!!!

But my Elizabeth said it best, she was soooo funny. And she loved curing all my friends growing up.

Vicks always helps me for colds; I put it on my chest at night before going to bed and I feel better sooner!!!

Vinegar and alcohol helps with swimmers ear; I got it only one time but it works!!!

LISA, LOL, cute!

I eat yogurt for canker sores and hold it against the sore. Seems to really relieve the pain and help them heal quicker.

For hiccups - I drink anything with carbonation and their gone right away!

In the shower, I shave my legs with baby oil. Makes them nice and smooth. I have done this for years, so yes I swear by it.

yep, in the fall I use it once a week to prevent earaches.

****ugh alert****

grapefruit seed oil. After battling athletes foot for a year, it was grapefruit seed oil that finally did the trick. It''s reasonably priced, too, compared to the brand name treatments.

Alum. You can get it in the spice section of the supermarket...it kind of burns at first but it totally dries out a canker sore and heals it really fast.

sweet oil?

I''ve used and had great results with drinking water backwards for hiccups too. When I mention it to friends, they''re very sceptical until they try it when nothing else works.

I very seldom have canker sores, but will remember the salt and alum treatments. Oil on top of boiling pasta - love it - and have used it for years.

Kaleigh, is "my Elizabeth" your dear nanny?

Sorry, can''t think of any from my own experience right now, but will add to the list when I do

1. Neosporin for chapped lips. Works very well. Use just a tiny bit, applied like gloss or chapstick. I use the pain relieving form too. It heals them much faster.

2. Run pasta under ice cold water when it comes out of the pot and is in the strainer. It keeps it from continuing to cook, and keeps it al dente.

I take Lysine when I feel a cold sore coming on--works every time! Haven''t had a cold sore push through in years.

Nail polish remover also works if you get hair dye on the skin of your forehead or ears.
