Hey guys,

Check the pics out and let me know what you think! I can't see this diamond in person, as I'd need to purchase it online. The price is 6700$.

Polish: Ex
Sym: VG
Fluor: None
6.52 x 5.85 x 4.04
Girdle: Slightly thick - very thick (faceted)

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

i forgot to mention that i'd also accept 1 word answers, lol. please people! i need some help. to me the ASET looks good, but i don't know much about ASETs. maybe a few dark spots too many?

any input is appreciated!

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

I think it looks nice!

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

great, thanks!

also forgot to add that i'm looking for something with a bit of "chunk" to it in terms of the facets. not like the antique cushions, but not too splinttery either...

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

Very dark under the table both in picture and ASET. Your head will be reflected a lot. If you like looking at your sweater or head in your diamond go ahead. If not look further.

This ASET is showing real flaws and serious ones yet noone has said anything about them.

Fancy Shape Advice on Pricescope is a joke now its always:

i) Personal Preference
ii) Self validating someone's purchase
iii) Cheerleading for the vendor PS they like
iv) Pushing consumers to the PS sponsors

Sorry but these fancy shape threads are an epic fail now. This is not a consumer forum anymore just a referral service to PS vendors. Look at the welcome email you received when you signed up.

Pricescope needs to find a better way of treating and rewarding the knowledgeable and those capable of real technical discussions. Of course that hurts sales and we wouldn't want the PS sponsors to lose any business now would we? :(

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

i don't even know what you're talking about. i'm very confused by your post.

i'm just looking for some advice. are you trying to say i have other motives? is there something wrong with what i posted? i'm not a diamond expert, that's why i'm on these forums. i have 36 posts. i'm just looking for some direction.

edit: judging by the 1st half of your post, i can see you're not a fan.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

this definitely looks like a non-crushed ice modern cushion. perhaps ask the vendor if those areas that are dark in the photo (under the table) stay dark when the stone is tilted?

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

I am not sure exactly what to look for in cushion ASET images, but I am guessing that the dark areas in the photos may affect the light performance of the stone that you posted. Look at the ASET images in this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...the-best-cushion-based-on-aset-images.173437/. Compare those images and the comments about the images to the stone you posted.

I am not saying that the your stone is good or bad, or that the examples in the thread I posted are great, but I think they may be okay just to make a comparison.

Here is another post thread you might want to check out that had an ASET for a cushion that other posters that was good: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...ck-on-3-08-cushion.173273/?hilit=cushion aset.

I think you are going to need some other real life photos to compare to the ASET of your stone.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

The dark area in the center concerns me. It might stay dark even when the stone is not static.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

The first thing that I noticed with the ASET is it looks like it has something going on around/under the table (something
fisheye-like). I dont actually see it in the picture of the stone but it looks like that photo was not taken straight on.

Can you ask the vendor what is going on under the table? Can you get a straight on shot of the stone (not aset).

If you look about 2/3 down on this page at the trillion images you can see what I'm talking about (fisheye like).
http://www.ideal-scope.com/1.using_fancy.asp

There are some dark facets (leakage). You could always order the stone and have a look. Send it back if you
are not happy with the light return.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

thanks for all the assistance guys. i'm actually getting a video from the vendor (who is actually praised on these boards, it's not WF by the way...). the vendor says there is very little darkness under the table if you move the diamond around. does that change anything?

Does calling it modern forgive the performance flaws? and allow the wearer to ignore the darkness under the table?

no, but the OP has been looking for a cushion of this type for some time. compared to his other alternatives (no pictures) it looks like it might be promising.

OP: definitely get a video.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

I'm personally not liking the big dark X that goes across the diamond. In most really well cut cushions you will see some dark go
through the middle table area then a little leakage around the outside (I would consider this normal). On the stone you are
looking at it seems to be a big dark X that goes from corner to corner. Maybe its the cut that lends to the dark X but I'm
not big on it. In the world of cushions this stone is probably better than 99% out there but I'm not sure a picky PS regular
would go for it. The good news is that the world is not full of picky PS regulars.

Have you compared the video with some of the other ERD cushion videos?

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

I like the facets but I can see that one rather large area of dark in the video. I say be a little more patient. Also, it would be nice if they give you a couple of options for you to decide, not just one.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

i have. to me it looks good, but then again i don't have an eye for this kinda stuff yet, i've only been educating myself over the past few weeks.

let me take a video again to see if i can see what you're talking about.

also, maybe it has something to do with the fact that he calls this the "X-Factor" cushion cut.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

he's given a bunch of options, but this one is one of the better ones as it's in my price range and the others were basically all closer to 1ct.

maybe i should be more patient, but then again, maybe not!!!

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

another update: i was told by mark that they all look like this and the "X" is overridden by the brilliance of the stone.

i'm so confused! it looks pretty good to me i have to say, but obviously i want to buy something that will make us both happy forever!

First thing I noticed too. It's in the pic a bit as well.

I'd get it in person before you set it and see what you think about it.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

The problem is I live in Canada. Shipping isn't the easiest thing, so returning it isn't ideal.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

About 20 to 21 seconds into the video, you can see the center go dark. So I would be concerned if you could see that looking straight into the diamond.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

ya i noticed that. so basically you guys are saying this is a no go.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

I think the consensus is that you can do better and that we would all rather spend our $$$ on something else if it was our money.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

ok. i'm just a little clueless as to why this is the consensus? the dark spot in the middle at certain angles? i spoke to mark and he had his other 3 gemologists review it and no one saw any problem with the dark in the middle and explained that it was the cause of just a poor angle. he also stated that in my price range this cushion is about as good as it gets (also adding that it has the most brilliance out of the other options).

so you guys would still keep looking even with this explanation?

edit: i saw a nice 1.01 in person here the other day, for about 2000$ less (although i don't have any pictures, but it was quite nice).

cushion brilliant
6.03 x 5.73 x 3.84
1.01ct
G
SI1 (eye clean)
polish VG
Sym VG
Fluor: None
Depth 67%
Table 66%
The diagram in the GIA report is identical to the GIA report in my original post.

again, i have no pictures, but it looked nice, had a nice sparkle to it and like i said, it's 2k (maybe even more if i pay cash, make what you will of this comment) less than the one at ERD. and to me the dimensions look similar so it should face up quite similarly to the 1.20ct one in this thread no?

I do not believe that with Mark's reputation at ERD he would steer you wrong (nor the other 3 gemologists). I like the first diamond you posted as long as there is no "fish-eye" effect with the green around the table. The video looks great to me. I can see a reflection of the table towards the end of the video. But if it had fish-eye they would tell you and I doubt seriously they would have it in their inventory and sell anyone a stone like that.

The ASET with the GOG diamond doesn't look as good to me as your first diamond from ERD. Did you call GOG to see what else they may have? They get stones in all the time and will do a video comparison for you if you are not quite sure about your first pick from ERD.

Good luck.

yes there is 100% no fish eye and mark seems to have a lot of confidence in that particular stone.

i have been going back and forth with GOG, but going from what they have available and what they're seeing available, i haven't really seen something of great interest to me with them yet.

Re: What do you guys think about this cushion (pics, ASET &

Did you see this one on Leon Mege? 1.24 I vs2 $6500 No pictures yet. or GIA report showing.

http://www.micropave.com/index.php/loose-diamonds/1-24-i-vs2-antique-cushion-cut-diamond.html

I know this one is out of your price range but it faces up like a 2c cushion. Nice.

How about that faceting?

I was so surprised at how appealing a GIA K color was when I saw one in a jewelry store one time.
I was like: "Oh, that is beautiful!"

Given this I think it is worth seeing in person. Shipping is not that big a deal. ERD send it to you, you pay taxes (like with any purchase in Canada). You like it, great. If you want ERD to make a setting for you, ship it back with ERD's help and a FedEx label, then have it set and sent back to you -- they mark it as return and repair and you do not pay taxes again. You don't like it, ship it back get your refund get your taxes back. Small inconvenience for the savings.

Tell me: Why do you want a cushion? What is it about the shape that appeals to you? Because there are different cuts with different stengths. In my humble opinion, cushions are not really the one you go for if you want perfect optics. There are too few cut really well, and the ones that are, will cost about double what this one costs for the carat weight.

See, I like this one! To my eye, the light reflection is more pleasing and visually attractive to me than the ERD one. Perhaps ERD can provide a similar video angle as the GOG video angle so that you can get a better comparison? I think that the fact that the ERD video has a black background affects the way the light reflects. But if Mark says the stone is good, then I'd trust his eye.

The problem is that there are so many variables involved in this situation that I think it will be difficult for you to really *know* until you actually see the stone.
