I can see the inclusion from the pic. Is it eye visible in real life... and does that matter to you? Table is HUGE.

One thing about asschers. You have to have higher clarity than SI normally as step cuts are very transparent. In that respect... cushions can save you money because you can drop down in clarity much easier.

Hey Gypsy, thanks for the follow up. I can now see the inclusion also...and it DOES bug me. I want something "eye clean".

I will keep looking...I truly don''t want to make a bad choice. Maybe my budget is not for an asscher and I need to go back to the cushion idea.

Any suggestions are appreciated...(unfortunately) her favorite is asscher. But, it seems very hard to find a good 1 carat within my budget. : (

What''s your budget? GOG always had nice asschers.

I''d go back to the cushion in your budget. I really would. You''d have better luck getting an eyeclean lower clarity stone. Shoot for a bright firey stone with great spread and a high crown, tell Mark exactly that too.

3K AND he wants a carat. PLUS higher color. H and above. CHALLENGE!

Budget is 3K.

Have you looked at James Allen? They seem to have a number of asschers. They may be able to find you something decent but there really are a lot of awful asschers around. And if you go smaller you''ll loose the the visual geometric look and if you go lower in color you''ll see it. If I were your girlfriend I''d go for the GOG asscher for $4K in a simple setting and forget the wedding band until an anniversary. But that''s just me!

I think a 3K budget will not get a quality 1ct asscher. 4K is likely necessary, but just my thoughts.

Thank you, Gypsy.

I will check this out and share with her.

PS.
Mark (ERD) says it is eye clean, plus he believes it is a great stone. But, I''m concerned.
Jonathan (GOG), agrees with most of you and say he cannot find a good asscher for the budget.
Who do you think would be the best one to assist me?
As you see, this is pretty hard on me right now (especially because she wants a 1ct square asscher more than ever now)

honestly, if she really wants a 1 carat asscher is there any way you can just wait a while longer, save up a bit more and get it for her? I don''t think you should settle on a shape /size she doesn''t really want if there is any way to just hold off to get her exactly what she does want. I love Mark T, and trust him, but if I were buying an asscher, i''d go with Jon and GOG.

I trust Marks eyes. If he says it's eyeclean I believe him. Does he know the crown height on it? If it's over 11% I would buy it and have it sent to me to see it for myself. It's a good price for a one carat asscher. She really wants one. And eyeclean SI's are very hard to come by in step cuts. If she loves it, great. If she doesn't... then keep searching.

HOWEVER, I do agree with MsS 100%.

I love the cut- and if it what she wants, she may not be happy with anything else.

Yes, she does loves the cut (more than I do). I REALLY tried to sell her the cushion idea, but at this point I am totally dedicated to find the "perfect asscher".

On the budget side, I do have some flexibility. But, 4K sounds a BIG jump. Is this reasonable? Or maybe $250-$500 will do it?

Alex is someone asked me what a reasonable budget is for a nice 1 carat asscher I would say 6K. Look on GOG. You''ll see. 4K is honestly low with the rise in diamond prices recently.

This is a once in a lifetime purchase for most people. She''ll be wearing it for the rest of her life. IF you have flexibilty and CAN do it. I would. IF you don''t have flexibility, then don''t do it.

it really is. call jon, discuss your budget and go from there. again, if it''s too big a jump to pull the trigger today, save a little while longer until you can do it. you also don''t have to have a ring to propose or be engaged so if you just want to get engaged, do it then save a while longer and buy the ring she wants

Ditto. Jon at GOG is reputed to be the asscher man on PS, so get in touch with him. If you gal is sentimental, then wait to get the size she wants. If she is open to upgrades, then get the one you can afford from GOG and upgrade later!

Asschers are tricky beasties, you really need to go with someone who knows them well.

I got engaged already...in a balloon ride, with $35 silver bands (plus a ring promise)... And I survived : )

Anyway, I agree with you all. Maybe I will strech my budget and discuss some options with Jon (and Mark).

Finally, do you guys know if GOG will be more expensive than ERD. I know both provide outstanding service, but I have a feeling GOG charges a bit of a premium for his OUTSTANDING infrastructure. Am I right? In other words, should I go with Mark to find me something between my budget and the 4K GOG.

Let me know your thoughts.

go smaller, come up with more money, or buy a woofer are your only real options.
If you bought a smaller kicken asscher from a vendor with a 100% trade up policy in a few years you could upgade too a 1ct or even a 1.5ct

lol..storm...but very true..

i personally still would go with GOG for an asscher even if you are paying a bit more for the details/services he provides. he just knows how to pick asschers and does offer a wonderful upgrade policy so you can get what you can afford now and upgrade it to a larger asscher if you/she are open to that in the future. since you are already engaged, i''d still wait/save to hit the 1 carat mark, hopefully putting off the upgrade bug for 5-10 years

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4211/ I would ask IMMEDIATELY for pics of this one. And a ASET and sarin... and everything

I KNOW it's not one carat. But because of the depth % it faces up (the spread is) the same as a One carat. It's measurements are 5.5 x 5.5. THE SAME as the 1.04 they have on thier site, and the SAME as the one from ERD above. It has a lot of promise. A LOT of promise.

And it's 4K. And it's a G and it's flawless.

Will do! Tks, AS

I think you will have to up your budget to get a 1ct quality assher.

I''d also put it on hold ASAP. Lurkers have been known to snatch stones especially ones like this that are very rare and hard to find...

nice find gypsy

Okay I''m no expert but if 5.5 faces up about the same as a 1ct what about this one?

http://engagementringsdirect.com/loose_detail.php/session/e6727f914de2f4d69da176b99ceb5d5f/id/14632473/sz/150

totally in your range....what do the experts say???

Thank you. Kccutie. I believe the answers from the experts will help me a lot...

Mark does not have the crown height of this stone.

Is there anyway to get it? I don''t think he has Sarin...

Experts, what do you think about Kccutie comments? I believe it can help me A LOT. Tks, AS
