LOL! Sometimes it''s free if you just go sit in the bar attached to the lobby!

Waste of money is what I have started doing - spending too much time on the I-net. I thought I-net shopping was a waste of money, but no, I never bought too much. But considering how much my work hour costs..I should be doing something else now, but lunch with a colleague starts at 11:30 and it will take me 15 minutes to drive there. My kid will be out of school at 1 pm. Seriously, I should be doing something more productive. Like drinking coffee and thinking of life.

Which charges $87 for a beer.

I have to say that waste of money, well what we tend to waste our money on- eating out.

Also, I would say:
Parking garages (when I paying to shop/eat/watch a movie/visit someone in the hospital)
Gas stations that charge less for cash than for Debit.
The fee associated with paying any bill

For me, massages and facials would be a waste. I don''t like random people touching me (and I never relax enough for it to feel good).

What about people with jacked up feet? In those circumstances, I think pedis should be mandatory.

I suppose this is when wants and needs come into play. And so technically, anything that''s unessential for daily function would be a waste of money.

For example, I needed a car. I wanted the Mercedes SUV, and as much as I love my car, it was a want that I''m blessed enough to be able to afford. But I will admit that we''re wasting a lot of money.

wasted money:
-- some of the various vehicles I have owned
-- some of the jewelry that I bought back when retail stores were the only available source
-- one pair of designer eyeglasses that the optician just could never get the lenses correctly ground for that shape of frame
-- all the monthly fees that I paid to match.com
-- all the monthly fees that I paid to Yahoo Personals
-- all the hefty fees that I paid to e-Harmony

Finding out that there really *are* no SWMP college-grad marriage-material bachelors in the greater Youngstown metro area, and that poor vision makes gap-toothed oddballs in dirty clothes look a little less disgusting: Priceless.

Interest & late fees.

Taking a cash advance from a credit card.

Buying groceries at the corner store rather than a supermarket.

Spoiled food.

Buying something - then losing it and having to buy it again.

Having to pay for sachets of butter/mayo/ketchup at an eatery.

Insurance.

Junk food.

Going to the doctor - when you are already feeling better.

Paying for call time, channels or internet access that you never get around to using.

Candy & soft drinks at the cinema.

Parking.

Designer goods.

Not shopping around.

What do you consider to be a waste of money?
The high cost of movie tickets
food and drink at the movies
expensive computers
luxury coffee
car wash
hard bound books
shipping costs
trendy designer clothes

I notice a lot of people complaining about the cost of the food at movie theaters. Do you all know that that the sales they make from the movie tickets is sent back to the studios? The food is marked up because they make no money from tickets. So, don''t blame the theaters, blame the Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, and Will Smith''s of the world. They''re the ones getting 20 million dollar checks to ACT in a movie.

shaving creme - My daughters use it for their legs. Why can''t they just use soap? - I do. LOL.
massages - I like them but a half hour after I''ve had one I''ve basically forgotten about it
hardcover books - prefer paperback or to just borrow the book from the library
shipping fees - especially JCrew!

Expensive ''anti aging'' skin care and cosmetics. It really is a waste of money. The best thing you can do for your skin is use sunscreen, and the best sunscreens are cheap.

Still though, I cannot, CANNOT justify paying $5-6 for a small popcorn! It''s crazy! I always go Matinee, then the Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock of the world are getting less from me ;)

Yeah, you can''t expect to justify 10 bucks for popcorn you can make at your house for a buck. The film industry needs to understand that people think the $10 ticket is quite expensive enough without $5 Junior Mints, especially if you''re taking the whole family.

Or $5 for a bottle of water at a baseball game.

Waste of money...

brand new cars
leasing cars
bank/late fees
home phones
shipping charges
buying too many clothes for DD that she never wears.
leaving lights on when you aren''t in the room (pet peeve of mine)
not using/forgetting coupons

Not a waste of money....

buying concessions at the movie theater. That is how they make their money so consider it a donation.
insurance for things you cannot afford to replace
HEALTH INSURANCE (even though that bill hurts)
magazines (bring joy to my life).
nail polish (I do my own nails so it is not that expensive and it makes me happy)

There were a few threads about sneaking food into theaters and how much it is taking away from profits. Someone even went so far as to say it''s "stealing" to sneak food in. lol

Last time DH and I went, we did buy two hot dogs and popcorn, but brought in our own water. When we have the kids with us, we *may* get hot dogs, but not often! It''s just too expensive with the four of us especially now since many more movies are in 3-D and we have to pay extra for the fancy plastic glasses.

I use a lot of anti-aging stuff b/c my skin is sensitive to sunscreen. The only product that seems to be okay for my eyes is Clarins sunscreen spf 30+ (I forget what it''s called). I spend $26 (?) for it and it lasts a year. During the summer, I always wear a hat.

Tickets.

Last year I kept track of the money DH WASTED on traffic tickets--using a cell phone while driving, driving through a red light at one of those camera-monitored intersections, twice, parking in a no-parking zone in the city, et cetera. The amount of money we wasted on tickets was so close to what it would have cost us to buy the shiny new bicycle he wanted that I told him he had to wait another year to buy the damn bike. Oddly enough, he hasn't gotten any tickets since.

Has anyone mentioned taxes? (lol!)

Drinks with dinner (unless it''s a special occasion or special wine/drink, I''m not much of a drinker anyways).
Manicure/Pedicures- Have never had either (not even my wedding), and don''t plan to start.
Expensive floral arrangements - they die so fast! Would rather buy potted plants.
Name brand items at retail

My Lexus will be 8 yrs in May... and I plan on driving it for the next 2 years before getting a new car.
My mom has had 2 Jaguars... drove one for 10 years, and the other is going on 8 years now.

I don''t understand the basis of saying you need a new car after 6 years?

Television
Anything besides a basic car wash for ~$6-8
Candles

manicures and pedicures
organic produce
late fees on anything
buying books, dvds, cds new
deciding on one thing, then changing my mind, then more often than not changing my mind again

I am glad your cars last a long time for you. I don''t know where you live, but here in NH, the winters are really harsh. When you commute 1 hr to work and back, it does take a toll on any car. I can put so many miles on a car in one year, that to me, spending $$$ on a car ( pretty much any car ) to me, is not worth it. When I said this, I didn''t mean to insult anyone ( or you ). THat is my own opinion.

On the luxury car note: my Jeep retailed for ~$45k brand new. It''s a limited edition with tons of bells and whistles, it''s a gas guzzler, but it was what I could afford when my boss offered to sell it to me last year and there are just as many pros as there are cons to me driving it. While it''s not technically a luxury vehicle, it is an SUV and not very eco-friendly. I don''t like that about it, but there are other factors that went into the buying decision I made that no one else could possibly know. Driving it in a neighboring city that is very liberal in which green-ness abounds is sometimes tough, I''m outnumbered by smart cars and prius'' by a landslide and get my fair share of people asking wth is wrong with a seemingly intelligent person such as myself.
2.gif
I drove 2 new Corollas for a total of 8 years so I think I sorta did my part when I was able. Someday I''ll go back to a smaller, more eco-friendly vehicle, and in the meantime I walk whenever possible to offset my current eco-UNfriendliness.
