what do you call this setting?

The second one looks like a cathedral (because of the prongs on the diamond) and the first looks to be a channel (possibly a tension) with a bridge. I would NOT go with the first one. I had a setting exactly like this and the diamond was constantly coming loose from normal wear and finally the gold started breaking down because it was having to be heated to tighten the stone too often. If you want somehting like this then invest the money in a true tension setting or maybe a custom piece with some kind of modified prongs.

Price does not include the head to hold the diamond, however, you could put any style in there!

An amazing priced plat. setting!

ETA: because you buy the head seperatly, almost any diamond size and shape can fit

your top ring can be called several different names as I have one. My one jeweler called it a faux tension as there is a bar underneath, another call it channel setting since it is like a channel that holds the diamond in place plus the bar underneath, some will call it a semi bezel (on princess) but I disagree with that term on rounds with this look. Another term is Bar Setting or Bar set. beautiful! love em'

Your second ring looks like a cathedral with chevron prongs can't tell from the profile if that is a trellis or peg head or not.
