I''m a high school English teacher.
I love my job.
Haven, I can totally imagine you as a teacher. You are so eloquent and well-read, it''s a perfect job for you

Now, I am starting to wonder if all my grammar is correct in my post

Well thank you very much, Honey!

Marcy, what do you teach at the college?

I have 2 jobs. My full time job is a supervisor of an editing department and my part time job is adjunct teacher at a community college.
Hi Marcy,
I am hoping to get a part time job as an adjunct at a community college. I haven''t apply yet so I need to do that first. But my curiousity is how do you prepare yourself for an interview? If you don''t mind sharing, I am all ears.
Thanks in advance!!

3Rocks--I''m not marcy, but I used to teach at a community college. I started as an adjunct and later accepted a full-time tenure track position.
We wanted to know that our adjunct instructors had the necessary content knowledge, and that they knew how to deliver it, as well. I would be prepared to answer content-specific questions, as well as scenario-based questions about how you would respond to specific instructional challenges, and how you would deliver specific material.
Good luck! Community colleges are extremely satisfying places to work. It''s rare that people leave their positions in CCs, because they''re so wonderful.

In the jewelry trade for many years(sales, management ,training,Identification and consult)Recently graduated from college in Communications and business.Currently work for a stationary and gift/leather goods store.

I''m just curious

I''m a social worker for mentally ill adults and a PT grad student.

If you are a social worker now, what are you studying in graduate school? (Asked by a curious MSW, of course!)

PS-Before my daughter was born my last job was working with the de-institutionalized mentally ill in the community, primarily schizophrenics and manic depressives (as they were then called) i.e. people with bi-polar disorder.

I''m going for criminal justice, in hopes of eventually doing profiling work for the FBI. I want to get a PsyD in Forensic Psych before that, though. I currently work in a day program with schizophrenics and bipolar patients. Every day is something new, lol!

Wow, I''m in such illustrious company. I''m just a gardener.

Hi Haven,
Thank you so much for your reply. I would like to teach accounting as this is my field. How would one prepare to answer a content-specific questions? Accounting has many contents. Would they inform me of what content I should be preparing for? I did lots of presentation in the grad school and score A average but thats because I know the material beforehand and had time to prepare.
I guess I am nervous as I am not familiar with the process. I would appreciate if you can share any thoughts in this.
Thanks!

A gardener is an important job too! You keep the world looking beautiful.

When I read your post, I was reminded of a little quote I once heard:

Friends are flowers in the garden of life

I can''t believe I got to the lab all day and someone pays for it! I love my job!

Wow honey, that''s exactly what I want to do! When I''m in a lab I feel like the rest of the world is standing still and it''s just me and my chemicals
5.gif
I''m so weird!

Can I ask how you got into research (education, work experience)?

ETA: I guess I should answer the question! I`m currently an insurance broker (family business), but just quit my job to go back to school and finish my degree

I hear you sweetie!

I am in Australia, so not sure if it''s relevant to where you are?

I have a Degree in Biological Science, with Honours in Genetics, however I undertook my honours year working in a medical research institute. I have been doing medical research for 6 years now and I can''t imagine doing anything else

I help all the US Marines, Navy, Coast Guard with their uniforms. Tell them what they need, write up the paperwork to get the tailoring done. I usually don''t see Air Force and Army since I work on a Submarine Base. I am actually about to switch departments, Uniforms is a bit too demanding for me and the pay VS work requirement is really not great. I''m not sure what I will be doing yet. I will still be on base but not too sure in which department.

Aww, thanks Mochi, and Honey!

Yes, I never thought I would say it, but it beats working your ass off for a major corporation any day. No stress, well not once silly season (annuals) is done. I posted new pics on your gardening thread Mochi!

And any time you fancy a change of employment Mochi, you head on up here. Not sure we could swap though, I''m too much of a wuss - you go girl!

I can''t remember if I''ve answered this particular thread (there have been many similar threads in the past), but I''m a Technical writer/editor for a consulting and engineering firm that works a lot with renewable energy developers. In addition to editing/writing technical documents, I do a lot of work with the marketing group on corporate communications and proposals.

Prior to this position (about 3-4 months ago) I worked as an editor/project manager for a large educational publisher.

I''m a Licensed Professional Counselor. That means I can practice independently and collect third party payments. I''ve been thinking of getting into Distance Credentialed Counseling as my health continues to decline

Marian, I knew your profession. Indeed you educated me about professional counselors in my own state; I hadn''t known that we had them!!! But I did not know about your health. Is there a thread about this somewhere? If so, please put in a link. I am sorry to hear this!

I have not yet written a thread about my health. Well, I wrote one and saved it on MS Word, but have been reluctant to post it. I''m truly struggling with this sudden transition and may start a thread in the Hangout. Thanks so much for your concern.

Just? Working as a gardener would be a dream come true for me.

I work as a design/construction project manager for a food service company. Essentially, I manage the investments they make in existing facilities and make sure we get the biggest bang for our buck. Whether I like my job or not depends on which day you ask me and could be different from morning to afternoon. The department is VERY new to the company and there is no infrastructure at all. That would be what contributes to my love/hate relationship with my job. I keep repeating to myself that I am lucky to have a job being that I was laid off the in last year and most of my friends layed off as well are still looking.

I''m an elementary teacher.

I work in finance and accounting for a large brokerage firm.

We basically reconcile and prepare the books and the financial statements.
emteeth.gif

Thomperchik, I do the same! but for a small telecommunications company. I guess I am our finance department since it''s just me. It gets lonely. I''m thinking of getting into a larger company just for the sake of having more people to talk to at work!

I''m a law student with one year left to go. Before that, I worked in fundraising for an arts organization. After...well, not sure. I''d love to work in food/agriculture policy, but will probably (hopefully) end up clerking for a judge for a year or so until I figure things out.

I''m a chemical engineer working in an oil and gas company =)

I hope that if you feel like talking about it here, Marian, that you will do so in the knowledge that you will get a lot of support. Sometimes one just cannot talk about something, though. I know that when I first euthanized my dog I did not want start a big thread about it here! And, although I had received enormous support here during my mother's long illness, when she was dying and when she died (my daughter making a suicide attempt that week), I didn't want to start a big thread about that here either. I was readier to talk about those matters after some time had passed.

All I can say is that if you want to talk, we are here. You are a very articulate, intelligent, and highly valued member of the community.

Hugs,
Deb

Saddler
Klewis, REALLY??? That''s awesome! Which company do you work for (if you don''t mind my asking)? Do you enjoy it? How did you get started? I''m a horse owner, and I always thought I would love to have a job like yours!
1.gif

Oh, and I''m a paralegal and horseback riding instructor.
9.gif

Yikes, I''m sorry Irishgrrrl - I''m not a saddler. I was amused by Mochi''s post. She listed her job as a Dominatrix ( I included her post with mine) so I imagined being a saddler would be connected to a Dominatrix - you know, whips, boots and other leather tools of her trade. Well maybe you don''t know and neither do I actually. I see now it was a rather vague connection and possibly more related to S&M than a dominatrix, not that I would be 100% sure! Sorry to have misled you.
Nice to know you are a horse person though. My father grew up on a large station (ranch) & spent much of his life in the saddle and in his later life moved back to the station. On occasion he and I took overnight journeys by horse up into the hills on the edge of the Urewera National Park that bordered the station. I''m a very average rider though. We would overnight in a tiny rusty tin shed that leaned into the prevailing wind. It''s a very beautiful, primeval place.

Maybe you noticed the saddlery and other leather items in the Lord of the Rings movies? They were produced by an Irish/NZ saddler.
Wow! I did notice the beautiful tack on the horses in those movies, and I had no idea! That''s so interesting! I would love to spend a day just watching a professional saddler/bridle-maker at work.
34.gif

LOL! I really did think you were being serious about being a saddler, but looking at your "saddler" response in light of Mochi''s "dominatrix" comment . . . I get it now!
9.gif

And the trips you took with your dad sound like so much fun! I bet NZ is beautiful!
