when i used to work as a therapist, if i was seeing someone who was recovering from depression, i always asked them to build one thing that they liked into each day. firstly, because your brain simply likes it and makes all sorts of positive chemicals and hormones when you do. and secondly because it puts you in a position where you actually can say to yourself "well, today sucked - but! - i did *this* that i liked..." so it allows a person to frame every single day as having something good about it.

it's also a rule i use in my own every day life; i try to make sure there is at least one thing in every day that i like - whether it be eating a piece of turkish delight (i *love* turkish delight!!), buying flowers - or smelling flowers!, taking a walk, listening to music i enjoy, seeing a friend, a quiet cup of coffee on the verandah listening to the birds....well, you get the general idea.

it's currently 4am here in australia, so i havent had 'today' yet. however - yesterday i saw my 2 best girlfriends in the whole world.

and i did indeed have turkish delight.

so - how about you? what did you do today that you liked?

- Gave my friend my address so should could come down on a spur-of-the-moment visit!
- Scheduled time off to visit another friend over Easter weekend.
- Hit snooze and snuggled with BF for 5 extra minutes.

I took a long walk with my doggy. It''s the best way to start every single day, even in the bitter cold.

A and I spent extra cuddle time in bed this morning because it was so much warmer under the covers than in the rest of the house!

- I still got out of bed and worked out at 5:30 this morning, even though I had a rough night sleeping!
- I hugged my kitties!

-I got out of bed and came to work, despite being sick, and they are being nice and sending me home early! Much better than begging off or calling in.

thanks, whit- i need this right now!

i wore a new outfit to work. its a nice, and BRIGHT green cardigan sweater with fabric flowers on it and new pants. i feel very professional, and have gotten nice compliments.

I hit snooze this morning (never do that!) and I got to snuggle with FI for 10 extra minutes

LOL true Smurfy, but that''s an everyday occurrence. Thank you for pointing out that I need to be more positive. Just a bad day....

Nice q, Whitby! I woke up to exercise before work for the first time in my life. Its also the first time I''ve worked out in at least a year and a half, not counting yoga!

Well, this isn''t a "do" but I did find out that my former director had a girl this weekend

. She is her 3rd baby and she decided to leave it as a surprise (but was secretly hoping for a girl). She has 2 beautiful boys and her new addition is just gorgeous.

Besides that, I am happy about something work related. I dealt with a really difficult director in testing some of her controls but I handled it well and she sent a thank you note over to my boss for "finally sending someone that gets it." Kind of a

thing to say but I''m glad that I at least "get it" lol!

I took the 7:10 a.m. train instead of the 7:38 a.m. train in hopes that the extra half of an hour would make me just slightly less pressed for time for my Monday afternoon deliverable. Wishful thinking :) The bonus is that I got to spend an extra 20 minutes with D since he took the same train.

I snuggled with a warm, sleepy little girl while DH made our breakfast.
I 'won' my case in moot court at law school.
I laughed with my classmates over lunch.
I picked up DD really early from daycare and we went for a walk then ate dinner together.

It's been a really good day, and I hadn't fully appreciated that until I wrote this out. Thank you, whitby.

HH, you grew a little bit more baby so far today - that has to be good, right?

whitby, I try to make a mental gratitude list everyday b/c despite everything life is good. It is important to remember our blessings. Today I actually enjoyed running errands with my girl (she was good for once!) We got to go out to lunch and play in her tent. Nap time is soon which is my favorite part of the day and tonight I get to spend time with a friend.

What is turkish delight?

That''s the best thing in my opinion! I snuggled with a warm, sleepy little boy this morning and we watched some Sesame Street together by the fire.

Then I made myself a delicious capuccino and listened to my bigger boy read a story to my little one.

Good thread Whitby! I woke up feeling crappy this morning and now I''m reminded of how good my morning actually was.

I got to sleep in a little bit - which is great! And then I just got to have a few minutes to chat w/ my best friend.

What a great topic. I have been doing this for years.
It doesn''t have to be a big thing.
When I was working and struggling to buy my house and raise my son alone I used to take a walk around my property every day just to remind myself of what I was working for.
Now sometimes I''ll see a bird or a flower or a sunset. Or enjoy driving down the the road with the radio on and the wind blowing my hair.
Early in the morning it would be firing up my lap top and hearing/watching
some of my favorite bands on You tube as I start my day.
And these pleasures don''t seem to diminish one bit with age.

I took the day off to take care of my husband that is sick

I just ate 5 Hershey''s kisses and the experience momentarily made my day better.

Upgrade, your morning sounds lovely!

Tacori, turkish delight is one of the nicest things in the world. It''s a sort of thick jello, flavoured with rose water (and / or something else, can''t remember) and cut into chunks, which are rolled in powdered sugar.

It also comes covered in chocolate, which is not at all authentic, but really, really good. Oh, really good. So now I have to get off the couch, put my coat and boots on and venture out in the bitter cold to get some. Then I''ll be able to add eating turkish delight to my list of things I liked today, so it''s a win-win.

I picked up my diamond necklace (newly re-set into a pendant with halo) from the jeweler - and got my rings cleaned. So many sparkles and I''m in love with my new necklace! Made my day even though the rest wasn''t too great...

I went to the Philadelphia auto show.

Mmmm...I love Turkish Delight!

Tacori, they sell some at World Market right now. It''s not very good (kind of dry, actually, not the moist, chewy deliciousness it normally is), but it''ll give you an idea. Also, TJ Maxx/Marshalls will have it from time to time. WM also has the chocolate covered TD, but it''s not nearly as good (IMO, of course).
